I'm still waiting for update to the tower mac pro. What a great design for a workstation. I still don't understand why apple went with that trash can design? The tower was such a great design HP and Dell tried to copy alot of it's design for their workstations...

Too ez m8. Yeah, I want a 3 year old computer that was made out of hardware that was considered dated when it was released. Buying crApple's trashcan is the very definition of living in the past. My best bet is that they were just looking for something to tide the boomers over till they keel over and die.

That's why I kept my 5,1. I too hate this dramatic changes of lack of upgrability...if you talking about disposable Mac Pro sure I agree. I don't know what you do for living but if you can make income with one model...wouldn't that be sufficient? At least to hold you over for next gen Mac?

It would be awesome if they allowed us to somehow upgrade it. I'm all for cMP style....but it looks like we are at the point of making the best you can with current product.

Edit: it's like the Star Wars episode 4 where sky walker and Han Solo and other were trapped in trash compactor and pushing us in to the certain point by force.

I understand where you are coming from. I'd be the least bit forgiving if this entire situation weren't contrived. We all allow for a certain level of manipulation within our lives when we depend on these machines to make money. You swallow the marketing pill and ignore the bullsh!t fees or whatever in order to move on and get **** done. But we've entered new level or neglect and I just don't see where Apple deserves any benefit of the doubt. My best advice is that if you are a pro, cut your losses and leave Apple. The Pro model isn't Pro anymore. They've labeled toys as a Pro device in order to pump up a dying market. They've got their most brilliant minds working on emoji's and chat programs. It's been going on for years. The hangers-on in this forum are a miniscule segment of the market. Basically what I'm saying is that the Mac Pro is a corpse. It's dead on the table. The blood has all run out. Anything that come from Apple at this point will be an abomination. A truly ghastly site. But ya know what? The schadenfreude displayed in this forum will be glorious enough to stick around for a bit longer.

I also have a 5,1 and it's upgraded very heavily. Right now it freezes at least twice a day randomly where I'll have to hard restart it. I had to upgrade it to keep up with new software and tech that's coming up in order for me to stay with the trends. I bought this machine in 2010, and it's definitely passed it's best before date.

I am currently transitioning to both pc and Mac rather than exclusively Mac. You brought up a pressing issue: emoji. That was cringe event. So what then? I use Mac still for fcpx (at least for my purpose) and Windows. As I saw how many people were staying via voting wise, most were planning to stay but how long? We were hardcore FCP 7, then X came out. We stayed with 7 for as long as we could, then Premiere CS6 gave us everything we wanted the next final cut to be and switched. Adobe was even nice enough to give us a "Final Cut Pro 7" keyboard layout for a seamless transition.

Right now I have no anchors to be exclusive to mac, the only thing is maybe for ProRes outputs which I can easily swap for something else.

My basic understanding is that Apple has a problem. It's computers and phones are mostly used by old people with cash to spend. Apple has to transition in the next 10 years as their user base quite literally is dying off. So we're seeing them try to grasp at the younger markets that are heavily saturated in the Windows and Android sphere. Apple perceives that this group doesn't care about tech specs or the potential to create media or what not. Apple quite obviously sees this group as being more concerned with the social aspects of the devices. The paradigm has changed, it's just a matter of how long people around here are willing to wait and be ignored really. Apple is making devices to connect people together, it has stopped making devices to create content. The "Pro" category is an artifact from a bygone era. Those are the facts. People just need to wake up and smell the coffee.

How is it too bad when there is a solution? You try to make it seem like its not possible when in fact you just don't like the solution.

It's not as if Apple has to choose one over the other. They have more than enough resources to do both. Updating the Mac Pro wouldn't put a dent into Apple's bottom line. I can't think of a single reason for Apple to have let it languish for as long as it has. Maybe it wouldn't be as much of an issue if it could be upgraded.

Yes they stopped dealing with serious users and became social like company. Regardless of technical aspect of why they killed off lot of older macs due Mac OS, they should have continued to support it little longer.
