Glitch issue in Photoshop

So, I have a new iMac 27"...but randomly when working in Photoshop or other adobe programs, this strange glitching occurs, as if my screen is hooked up to an NES

Has anyone else seen this before?

I ran the AHD, but it didnt return any negative results, im assuming its software issue at this point. The OS was JUST reinstalled as well.


The issue is that glitching that is above and below the layers box.

That looks like a minor video card issue, probably relating to how Photoshop uses OpenCL to accelerate certain functions.

What I would most be concerned with is heat issues. Make sure your vents are clean and clear on your iMac. Check the exhaust slot -- is the air really warm? Is the body of your computer really warm? You might need to clean it out.

My wife's iMac had its vents blocked by dirt and cat hair. I noticed it when she was using the computer and the video started glitching. I felt the computer and it was quite warm. We powered off the computer, I disassembled it and gave it a good cleaning. That's all it took.

If it's new, you are covered by AppleCare. Call them and explain what is happening... I think the term to use video artifact or video corruption. They may ask you take it down to the Apple Store however. Before you call, make sure you are fully up-to-date with Photoshop and the OS. If the Apple Store is handy, you may just want to take a print of screen shot down and show it to a Genius... they may be able to tell you whether it's a known problem or a HW issue that they need to diagnose on site (that AppleCare will fix or replace).

Thanks for the input! I will go ahead and check the vents to make sure they are clear. I don't believe the body ever got too hot, but I will keep my temp monitor open to keep an eye on it.
