Hello. I've been having this problem, since I got the iPad.
Basically iMovie has this glitch, where if I export a video, for an example: into Drive, then if I watch the video in fullscreen the audio cuts away or is just missing in general. This seems to only happen if I export it. It's really annoying. I haven't heard anyone else having this problem. Please help.

Info: I got the iPad from school.

Model: iPad Air 2
Software version: 14.2
Model Number: MNV22KN/A
Serial Number: DMPT24P8HG5D

Update: only some audio clips are missing. Not all of them

Does it work in other media player apps?

It doesn't. Wherever I export it, it gets "corrupted". It only seems to take effect if I watch the video in full screen. And obviously I'm forced to watch videos on full screen on whatever media player app I'm using.

does the problem exist when you export onto the iPad? (“into Drive” above means what?)

Yes. Even if I play the video on other devices, it's still glitched. (I, of course need to export it into Drive, otherwise the problem would be gone.)

Sorry, but I still don’t understand what you mean by “into Drive”.

If you are referring to exporting a video on your iPad to an directly connected external hard disk/SSD/stick - this is an ongoing problem (iPadOS 14.3) which exists since Apple allowed access to directly connected media. Working directly with external media is simply unreliable, a quick Google search will give you a bunch of threads on documenting various problems.

TL;DR: avoid working directly on external media - Apple’s Files works only for few and/or small files (it works from fine for networked drives like a WiFi-capable HD orcard reader).
If you want reliably copy data from or to external media with your iPad get FileBrowser for Business or GO.

First off: this iPad i'm using is from school. Second, what I mean about "into Drive", is that I export it into the Google Drive app, so I can watch it from other devices. I obviously won't have this iPad forever, so I need to save the videos I made.

Did you try to save/export the video onto your iPad? Is the soundtrack still partly missing in that case?

Just for testing purposes:
Does it work when exporting a movie to iCloud?

If you change the resolution when you save/export the movie and check the sound afterwards, does the problem persist?

Wherever I export it it's glitched. Also I can't change the resolution because i'm using iMovie, and that's the only thing I have.

I remember it still being corrupt, if I export it to iCloud. For some reason I logged out of my iCloud account, and I can't get back in, because the phone number list doesn't have: 040.

what iPadOS/iMovie Version are you on? in iMovie 2.3.2 I have an option to defined the resolution when exporting.

EDIT: for testing purposes create a new Apple ID.

I just made a new Apple ID, and got the phone number working. But I don't see the options, that you are talking about. Where exactly is it?

One other thing to test: instead of “Save video” try “Save to Files” and save your video e.g. to Downloads. Then open the video there via Apple’s Files.

Okay thanks. But it still glitches. It seems to be random on what sound effects it cuts out.

I also realized that iMovie saves files as .mov (QuickTime Movie). Is there any way to change it to mp4?

You can actually change the file extension to “.mp4” - as far as I tested the iMovie export is an MP4 file. I usually do that when I copy exported videos to external media which then will be connected to a display or projector somewhere.

If it is not to much bother maybe you install VN and try to create and export a short video with your files.

EDIT: if you export the same video let’s say 3 times - is always the same part/sample of the soundtrack effected?

Also I can't install anything on the iPad, because App Store is restricted.
Well, you created a new Apple ID, you can sign out any ID registered to the App Store via settings, sign in with the new ID and install whatever you want. It will even remain on the iPad when you sign out again.

I don't think you read my replies fully. I'm saying that my school gave the iPads to us. They restricted a lot so we can't download anything. Here's what they did:

-VPN creation not allowed
-Limited ad tracking enforced
-Authentication before Auto Filling passwords enforced
-Enabling Screen Time not allowed
-Spellcheck not allowed
-Auto-Correction not allowed
-Removing system apps not allowed
-Trusting enterprise apps not allowed
-Diagnostic submission not allowed
-Auto downloading apps not allowed
-Predictive keyboard not allowed
-Installing apps from device not allowed
-Unmanaged apps read managed contacts allowed
-Erase content and settings not allowed
-In-app purchase not allowed
-Encrypted backups enforced
-Keyboard shortcuts not allowed
-Managed apps write to unmanaged contacts allowed
-USB Accessories while locked allowed
-Installing configuration profiles not allowed.

It seems that you still can sign out from the App Store - I‘m not talking about signing off the user assigned by your school in general, just signing off the app store and signing in with the Apple ID you created.
Of course if your school additionally has removed the AppStore app from your device my suggestion would be pointless.

Oh, and I read it fully.

I can't find App Store, even if I search. Does this mean I can't get it?

Btw: The iPad is supervised by our school. (jic if you didn't know)
