Glitch with unread Mail message count?

I have noticed that Mail frequently shows me that I have somewhere between 15 and 25 more unread messages than are actually in the inbox. The notification bubble on the icon shows the inflated number, and then when I actually go into Mail that number still shows up in the status area until Mail refreshes and then brings up the correct count. Anyone else seen this?

Strange. I literally never saw that before this version of iOS. I guess I just traded those other bugs & glitches that no one could seem to figure out for this one.

New problem to me with ios 14 update.
my iCloud email frequently shows 10 unread until I check it.
I have a few email accounts on the stock app. Never an issue before.

Not everyone experiences the problem and it has been reported to Apple time and time again.

The stock app doesn’t update in the background like it should for me as well. It also screws up my work email where everything shows a date of 1979, and it doesn’t blue dot new mail so I can’t see which mail to read to get rid of the red badge count. I had to delete my work email from the stock app. Canary Mail works so much better and is quicker.
