Glossy vs. Non-Glossy Screen - How can you tell?

Hi,
If someone came to you on the street with a MacBook Pro, how can you tell if he/she had a glossy or non-glossy screen? Is there something in System Preferences or something that tells you directly? Or do you have to tell by just looking?

It's easy to notice the glare off of overhead lighting on a glossy screen.

It is very obvious visually. One is shiny and the other is not.

yeah totaly, I have an glossy screen and my girlfriends borther as a matte screen and you can notice a difference a mile away. I really like my glossy screen 2.

One interesting argument is that while glossy screens reflect a light source that's hitting it directly, the matte screen will spread the light around the screen, rendering it less readable. Take that as you will.

one of them reflects things and one of them disperses things. glossy looks like a sheet of glass, matte looks like plastic. glossy is shiny, matte is not. IMO glossy is the way to go, but matte people will say matte. But, let me tell you, side by side the glossy looks better. you have to do more cleaning though.
