Glossy vs Non-Glossy

Whats the difference between screens on the Macbook Pros? WHat do you think is better?
 
Most of them concluding that it's a personal preference thing so if you can get to a store that sells these machines and check them side-by-side, you'll be able to decide for yourself. :)
 
It's tough to say because Apple stores don't stock BTO computers, so I don't think anyone has any experience except if they bought it.

On the MacBook's 13" screen I think it's lovely. It's got rich fullbodied color and the contrast is a lot better - I'm a stickler for blacks and so it's great. However on a larger screen, it is a larger reflecting surface, so the glare problem would probably get worse the larger the screen is. I didn't consider it to be a problem at all on the MacBook.
 
I prefer the matte, because it's what I'm used to. I have to say that the golssy has more vibrant colors, but I don't think I could use it as a main screen. I played with a MB at Fry's the other day, and I still really prefer the matte finish.
 
I was in the matte camp before I actually saw the new glossy screens - Guess which I prefer now?

Seriously, don’t judge until you see them, they are very, very, good.
 
I was recently at the only apple store in canada, at yorkdale mall in toronto and i can most definately say I prefer the look fo the glossy screens they colours are soo rich. When I buy my MBP I will definately be getting glossy.
 
I can't believe theres another new thread on this. Glossy screens suck though. Colors may be "rich" but they're not accurate, and the glare! The glare!!!
 
So d'yall think the new ACDs will sport the option for glossy screens?

Matte all the way, every monitor I've used (recently) has been a matte finished LCD, the TV's in my house are also matte finished, they just look perfect the colours are great and in all honesty blacks look fine.

Best bet? Don't ask us get yourself to an apple store and see first hand what the screens look like, this way you'll get a feel for it and be able to choose which you prefer.
 
I despise the glossy screens, the reflection is unbearable in all but pitch black environments.
 
Glossy

I really worried about the glossy finish after I read a lot of replies on these forums. I ordered a macbook and was suprised at how nice the screen looked. There was absolutely NO reflection except if you were looking at the computer at an angle, and who looks at their computer from an angle? I've looked at it in several different lights and I never have a problem with glare. I have no idea what kind of lighting the nay-sayers on these forums have, but I've never experienced it.

Lots of people, especially those in professional environments with more than one display.

Very bright lights, especially fluorescent lab lights.
 
Well, I used to be a huge glossy screen hater, and definately preferred the look of matte screens. However, I've grown to enjoy the look of the glossy screen since the Macbook came out. Looks very nice. If I get a MBP, I'd choose matte, but it doesn't bother me that much.

Exactly, it's not the *look* we're going after. It is the quality, and productive value. A brilliantly glossy screen with inaccurate colors features neither.
 
I recently bought a 2.16ghz macbook pro and was faced with this option. So, I drove on down to the apple store and checked them out.

Yes, I have to agree colors are much richer with glossy...it looks great. But my eyes are bad, I get migraines from reflections(once flat screen tvs came out, boy were my eyes happy). I can not stand glare or reflections like that, but hey maybe some of you can. If you can stand it, then you should definitely get it.
