Hey guys,

I do video editing on the side and I've got a project that I'm aiming to finish this December. I am currently selling my 1Ghz Tibook and hoping to get a new laptop to replace it.....either a Macbook 2.0 or a 1.67 G4 PB.

I wanted to know which machine would be the best to buy. I would be using DVD Studio Pro and Motion 2. I know that it says FC Studio doesn't work on the GMA GPU, but has anyone tried to install it and see if it would work?

I would end up doing video conversions from DV streams to 16:9 standard videos. I know that's the processor's job, but is the 2.0 Core significantly faster over the G4?

I just like the Macbook b/c it has the webcam and it keeps me from having my iSight part with my 1.6 G5. Also, i can't afford the MBP's. But if i could, would it be smart to pick up a 1.86 Core Duo MBP?

If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Motion has some speed issues under the GMA950. Still, check out the refurbished MacBook Pros on Apple.com. They're worth MUCH more then getting a PowerBook at this stage.

Yeah, its much more faster, plus remember there are 2 of the 2 Ghz core as opposed to 1 G4 at 1.67 Ghz. Remember these Intel chips are better than G5's and G5's are better than G4 so Core Duo's are significantly better than G4's

Yeah if you could squeeze out about $1550 I say go for a refurbished 1.83Ghz Macbook Pro. If you run some hard core apps that require the graphics card then this is what you should be aiming to get. Plus depending on how much you have saved up already once you sell your PBG4 you should be able to get the Refurb. 1.83 MBP.

I highly recommend doing whatever it takes to get your hands on a MacBook Pro, since its Radeon X1600 will make for a huge performance increase over the MacBook's GMA.

The Radeon 9700 Pro is a decent performer, but if you get a PowerBook G4 you will be sacrificing a lot of CPU power that the MacBooks provide with their Core Duos.

A tough decision - but no matter what I would avoid the GMA-equipped MacBooks.
