gMac - The Ultimate Gamming iMac

Dear Mr. Jobs and/or Apple,

Now that another major game maker(Valve) has decided to start releasing there games parallel to the PC world (besides Blizzard), is there any way for you guys to release an iMac that would compliment it?

Perhaps the following could be a start:

GPU - Ati 4870 from the Mac Pro
CPU - Any version that is at least 3.0ghz(core2duo, i3, i5...)
HD - 1tb
Ram- 4gb
the same dvd+ card reader
21.5 display sames as the low end but with 2 new features:
-anti glare reflection coating
-no display noise or high pitch noise related to the brightness
Price- $1999-2100

(if the form factor has to be increase by 10%-15% to fit the better card and cpu, so be it)

Also, if you want to reduce risk, make only 100k every 18months, though if the demand is higher, make more.

They should make a computer especially for portal and starcraft 2?:D
A 27" iMac has more or less the specs you want, just a bigger screen.
 
You are only asking for a better GPU... Next update will bring a new one but not as good as you would like

Yes but the cpu and graphics card has to push more pixels on the 27inch then on the 21.5inch.

Basically, can we get the same spec as the high end iMac but in a 21.5 form so that the performance is blazing?

Since Apple will probrably never release a tower mac in between the iMac and Mac Pro.
 
Eh, you shouldn't really look at the 27 inch screen as such a huge hinder in the iMac's gaming capability. Instead, you should look at it as a unique opportunity to experience games while sitting close to a breathtaking screen and have your game graphics be very sharp and pleasurable.

If the next iMac gets a mobility 5870 or even a desktop 5750, that gpu is good enough to run at such a high resolution and play all of today's games and tomorrow's games at good FPS. Hell, even the current mobility 4850 in the iMac plays almost all games at native resolution with good FPS.
 
the heat from a 4870 would be very very difficult to dissipate in such a compact case. Not to mention, it most likely wouldn't be able to fit, even if the gpu is soldered to the mainboard there will be too many components required for it to run properly.

And at that price, forget it.

Yes, that would be the ideal. However, knowing that Apple would never do that in real life, the iMac that I'm prescribing is the next best thing. Or so.
 
I'm willing to bet that someday Apple will come out with a gaming console. Probably something like a mix between the Apple TV & iPhone/iPad where users, as well as big game developers can openly create their own games.
 
The ultimate gamming iMac ready for future Steam and Blizzard games is:

- current iMac 21,5" form factor (27" is too big for games)
- core i5
- ATI 5850 (5850 TDP=39W, current 4670 TDP=35W)

Not hopeless but have to wait until august/september before knowing

Its time for a new Macintosh that has no crippling, the all in one game vs Mini or Pro is just a little stupid. Apple is the only one playing this game. Apple should just make a small but full spec machine.

Probably yes, though I had a discussion with Eidorian about 5870 which would be named 5770 as Apple never says they are mobile and mobile 58xx is based on desktop 57xx. Hopefully not 5850 as it wouldn't be an upgrade

5850 is only 4W hotter than 4670 so it's possible but unlikely as the gap between high-end 27" and 21.5" would be too small. Hopefully 57xx in 21.5"

they arent REALLY mobile though.. but ah well. people will think that theyr crap! "i want the 58**".


5850 is only 4W hotter than 4670 so it's possible but unlikely as the gap between high-end 27" and 21.5" would be too small. Hopefully 57xx in 21.5"

is that all? 5850 in 21.5 then 5770 in 27?

Why don't you just downscale your game's resolutions to 1920x1080? They should still look fantastic, no?

On a LCD, always lower game settings before even touching the res. Non-native resolutions on LCDs always look like crap.
 
Beside the huge resolution problem of the 27" iMac... i tested a few 27" displays on my windows gaming pc.
27" is definitely a bit too big. Seems also that this subjective impression depends on the game to be played.
let me explain:
- Bad Company 2 : perfect playable on 27" and you could see a bit more of the enemy. Sniping is much easier

but...

- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 : bäääh. I cannot say why - but i think the screen is too big for this game. Here i loose a bit of orientation (sure i know the maps haha)

As i said - it seems that this depends on the game.

On my 24" (16:9) all games play perfect.
Oh and i forgot to mention: i am sitting about 60-70 cm in front of my LCD.

So i wish - all in all - no "better" imac - i wish a mac pro "midi" for us gamers and i already wrote a mail to mr. jobs about this hahaha. :cool:

Hence the price of $1999 for 21.5 form factor w/ specs from the 27".

What Apple probable doesn't realise is that higher frame rate is a must for gamers and we are willing to sacrifice resolution to achieve that.
