GMail app over native Mail app

Simple question - why do people use the GMail app over the native Mail app that is on the iPhone? Same goes for desktop...I see people saying that they would never use web based email service, only a desktop client. Why is that? It seems redudant to me to have a GMail app when I have a built in Mail app on my iPhone that I can link multiple accounts to. And I don't see the point of installing an email program on my desktop when I can just go to a web address and check my email. I'm not a "power email'er" so maybe there is some added functionality/flxibility that I'm overlooking?

I imagine this is a personal preference. I use Gmail extensively and I have about 20 email addresses from various accounts all managed beautifully by Gmail.

I was an Outlook User years ago but kept running out of storage space and hated having to move my mail when I swapped computers. The beauty of Gmail for me is that it collects all my mail (not necessarily) Gmail and does a beautiful job of filtering spam, labelling emails, categorising etc etc

At this stage, I wouldn't switch to Apples own Mail because I like the rate of innovation and updates on Gmail. Some people would hate the advertising within the App but I dont see that on mobile devices.

I also love their Google Drive integration too.

Gmail is web-based. You don't need to install anything.

Just my 2 cents! if you're happy with Apples mail app then why change? But if you do want to test Gmail without changing and your mail is on IMAP, you could just setup an acocunt, retrieve your email and try it. As long as it was IMAP, you could easily ditch it in future without losing your other mail. Actually, you could run both simultaneously as the beauty of IMAP is that it;s not device or platform specific.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm plenty happy/content with how I'm handling my email, just curious as to why others choose to handle theirs differently.
