Hi,

I have a Gmail mail account set via the native iOS 13 client, would you recommend to install the Gmail app to manage it? If yes, why?

So you would advise me to use it. Of course push notifications are a good reason, so as soon as I get a message, I immediately get the signal, which is not possible with the iOS client.

Is the battery consumption high?

I haven't noticed battery consumption being a problem with the gmail app. Note, if you install it, I would turn off notifications on the default Mail app for your Google account. That way you won't get double notifications.
