I can define the problem better using this clip
This is from the library mail folder
It shows two gibberish files and one good file
The folder labeled IMAP-***** is my wife’s account which is working perfectly
The other two are MY Gmail account and as you can see it is NOT right
I have deleted the folders and deleted the accounts but it DOESN’t CHANGE

Can anyone advise how to get my gmail account to function again

TIA
Mark

I bit the bullet and migrated from Gmail to iCloud mail back when there were problems with Mountain Lion. Yes, it was a huge hassle but you only have to do it once. I have never looked back, since then I have had no problems with my email and Gmail compatibility issues crop up all the time.

Whilst Google may have a point in how they arrange their folders and labels etc (i.e. better), it's not industry standard and that's probably why it breaks all the time.

I did the same thing as you. I like how I now have push email on my iPhone too. I still have my gmail on both and have it as the default for sending and then just set gmail to forward incoming mail to iCloud. It think that's the best solution.

I use three Gmail accounts, Google Contacts and Calendar to sync my iPhone in with my Android, Mac , PC blended ecosystem.

El Capitan 10.11.1 is currently running my Mac Pro, MBP, MBA and new MB. All completely stable fast and without a single problem. :D

It downloads mail constantly.
I can't create a smart mailbox
It isnt indexing searches Correctly

Like maxsix my Gmail is working fine on El Capitan. You've got one account that works so the problem is likely in your settings (settings for SMTP is a common culprit). Time to review all your settings both on your Mac and at Gmail.
