gmail in mail

I've been using the mail app to get my emails from gmail through POP.. been working fine until today. Its not getting any of my new emails of gmail anymore. I've checked online, I have about 5 new mails waiting. I tried resetting both the gmail and mail settings... no luck..

I imagine it's just a server side connection problem. Just try again later.
I find that occasionally my POP3 accounts wont connect/retrieve. I try again a few minutes later and they're fine. I guess it's just like an http 'timeout' error

Its not that it isn't connecting. Some emails were sent over a day ago...

When I redid the settings at gmail I had it resend all the emails in my account to the mail app.. but it neglected to send me those that I had not yet received...
