Gmail now at 4.167GB?

Hey all I just checked my Gmail web mail with Safari and it says I have 4167MB of storage. I searched Google and this is the only reference I can find to a storage increase. It is a google article from October 12th, 2007.

At the main Gmail login page it still reads as 2.9xxxxGB if I am logging in cold. But if I log in and then log out it reads as 4.2xxxGB and growing.

I have had Gmail since it was released in 2004. Has anyone else noticed this?

I only logged out when I noticed it this morning to see if the change was reflected at the log in window. And to see if it was still growing.

Yep, when I log into Gmail it says I have 4206 MB.

They are working towards infinity, but realized they can't do it.

In April 2005, we started increasing Gmail storage as part of our "Infinity+1" storage plan. At that time, we realized we'd never reach infinity, but we promised to keep giving Gmail users more space as we were able. That said, a few of you are using Gmail so much that you're running out of space, so to make good on our promise, today we're announcing we are speeding up our counter and giving out more free storage.

Gmail's storage constantly increases. Look at the Gmail page, and under the title 'Lots of Space' you can see that it keeps going up, and up, and up.

They recently sped up the counter, but note it's all about perception.

On Friday, the counter on the Gmail login page stood at more than 2,935MB, or about 2.9GB, of storage, and was rising, but the counter is an illustration rather than a hard limit.

Hotmail also surpasses Gmail's advertised capacity at 5GB.

cause i am still at 2.3GB mark and probably won't touch the 4.0GB mark for the next 2 years.

1.Yahoo Mail- Unlimited
2.30gigs - 30 GB
3.Hotmail- 5 GB
4.Gmail- 4.xxxxxGB
