Why don't you get Gmail to check your alternate pop3 email address/s?

Tried that, but it doesn't work quite as well. It isn't an instant push and then I have to organize emails twice. Using maildroid for now, but hoping some day the stock email expierence will be on par with the iPhone.

4.4 stock email app was updated - long overdue, not sure it has all the features in this latest gmail release though

Holy crap, I didn't even notice. Wow, its MUCH better. Disappointed there isn't any push though. And is there any way to set the mobile view or "zoomed out" view as the default? And how do you change the colors of the accounts?

Also, how would having 5 accounts set to fetch every 5 minutes affect battery life compared to having the 5 set to push on maildroid? Thanks.

I tried using fetch on K-9 Mail and AquaMail. The battery drain was pretty significant. I settled for using Gmail with my other personal Yahoo account set up as POP3 within Gmail. So far it works good.

What I did was forward my other email address to my Gmail account. I did this when I first started to use Android phones. That way, I can take advantage of Gmail's push notification feature. Also, I don't have to change email address. When answering emails, I configure Gmail to send it as my other email address in the from field.

This isn't the best solution, but it has worked quite well for me. It's just that on some apps, you have to be careful when sending via email. Even though Gmail is set to use my other email account in the from field, it seems that some apps that allow you to share via Gmail causes the default to go back to my Gmail account. I would have to manually change the from field. That confused a few people when that happened.

If you are sending from Gmail only, it should not be an issue. It may be an issue if you are in some other app and you use the share command to Gmail.

Vacation responder - check

Printing support - check (must be on KitKat though, as this is via cloud print)

Download all file types (including zip and tar files) - check

Download now via AP - http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/12/11/gmail-4-7-is-here-with-vacation-responder-kitkat-printing-support-and-drumroll-zip-downloading-apk-download/

Or wait for the update to hit your device. Enjoy.

To be honest gmail is one of the main reasons why I would switch to android it does everything and just I feel is vastly superior to the ions version and my personal email and school email are all through gmail, decisions...

Does it prevent information in the notification bar? I need it to say New Email, and not show the senders name, but still show that I have a notification. I don't need everyone seeing who I am getting email from when I am showing people videos or pictures on my phone. I cannot find any setting in any version of the Gmail app that allows this. I am currently using Kaiten to achieve this, but would like to use the default Gmail app.

I am using GoSMS to achieve this for SMS, because, again, that information can remain private. When I can get this on the Gmail app, I will return to it.

So far, I've yet to see an app that allows you to configure what amount of notification information shows up on the notification bar. App either allow you to turn on or off notifications and perhaps what types of notifications as well as the notification sound. I think you may be out of luck.

Kaiten allows you, within the app, under Privacy this option. Hide subject in notifications - Always.

When I get a new email, on any of the accounts that I have entered into Kaiten, it displays "New mail" in the notification bar, along with the envelope, and a customizable audio notification. This is absolutely invaluable to me. I will not use an app that does not allow this.

Is there a setting within the gmail app that allows for this?
