Gmail in Apple Mail on my MacBook Pro won't stay online. This has been going on for 2 weeks. I have deleted the account 3 times and added it back according to the instructions as listed both by Apple and Gmail. It will work after I add it back for a few hours and then back to offline. This is not happening with my Yahoo mail in Apple Mail and no trouble with my me.com mail either.

The strange part is that Gmail is working fine within iCloud on my iPhone and iPad (I am not using a Gmail app nor a Yahoo app). Anyone knows what's going on?

I found mine offline today with the need of confirming the password in Safari and authorize macOs again. Thought it had to do with new Mojave

Yes me too. I confirmed and it worked fine for an hour then back to offline. As I stated above, deleting and adding the account back produces the same result.

I've seen Gmail issues all the way back to Mavericks and before. It's sometimes caused by a screwed up SMTP server settings or Keychain entries. Also, syncing Keychain via iCloud can be troublesome.

Is this your only email account? When you deleted and re-added the Gmail account did you also delete SMTP server settings before removing the account? Before re-adding the account did you remove Keychain entries pertaining to the Mac Mail/Gmail account? Have you tried all the above with iCloud Keychain syncing OFF?

I just saw this article stating macOS 10.14.4 is causing a problem with Gmail. The article states users get caught in a loop. I'm not getting caught in a loop and my problem began before updating to 10.14.4.

There are numerous discussion threads about this 1n Apple Community support, for example: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250259379

It seems to be an Apple problem mostly for G-Suite email accounts - many people are complaining. I have the same problem, so I'm not using Apple Mail until a fix comes out.
