I just procured a new iPhone 13 Pro Max. What are the go-to apps for taking and editing photos and videos? I know the native apps are somewhat limiting.

Some to consider -

Photo: ProCamera, Halide

Video: Filmic Pro

Photo processing: Affinity, Pixelmator (I use Lightroom but I have a multi-device subscription)

Video processing: LumaFusion

I always shoot ProRAW in photo as it gives the widest latitude in post-processing.

For taking pictures I suggest(and not in this order):
  • Halide
  • Focos App - Portrait Mode on steroids
  • Camera + 2

For editing:
  • Darkroom for Lightroom like editing flow and customer filters
  • Afterlight for more "fun"/special effects fliters.

I used ProCamera, Halide and Camera+2 on my iPhone6+, but with my new iPhone13PM I can't see much benefit in any of these apps over using the Camera app.

I can see that specialised photography (e.g. focus stacking, astrophotography) require specialised apps, but not for general purpose everyday photos.

Can you give me some reasons to continue using any third party camera apps with the iPhone13PM?

Focos and Focos live give you a lot more depth data editing options.

Halide gives you the option to shoot smaller sized file raw images.
