Gog has launched Lucasfilm/Disney Games today.

First few games launched today, go get em whjile there cheap :)

Star Wars X-Wing
Star Wars The Tie Fighter Wars
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition
Sam and Max Hit the Road

And more to come.

What is this GOG and how is it different from Steam?

How is it different than owning the original copies?

I'm eyeing the Wing Commander Series as well as the Star Wars titles but have the original discs (disks ;) )...

GOG has no DRM, and whenever possible includes all of the original documentation and other "goodies" that came in the retail box.

Alas, most of these LucasArts games are only for Windows :(

As has been said already no DRM :)

GoG = Great old Games

I have bought far far far more from GoG than steam.

Funny, I was just looking at my copy of X-Wing Fighter which someone gave me and it is complete in box (CIB) - on 3.25" disks for Windows 95(?)... :eek:

I signed up at GOG and there are already FREE Games!

Downloading one of them now and will see how well it works...

They work quite wonderfully. Many titles originally only supported 3dfx Glide, and in those situations, GOG packages the game with a wrapper.

If you have a problem, they offer a 30-day money-back return.

The only GOG game I have that's given me trouble is Shogo: Mobile Armor Division (one of my all-time favorites), and it's because of the game's code. It's functional, but buggy in spots. Nothing GOG could really do about it without some serious re-writing, which I don't blame them for not wanting to invest time and money attempting to fix.
 
I have over 100 games in my GoG library and they are all stored on my drives here as well :)

Do not recall having any major show stopping problems with any of them.

I recently had to do a refund because I screwed up an order, money refunded within 24 hours no quibbles no problems.

I had no idea this site existed until it popped up on my Facebook feed yesterday.

Some great games. Mainly windows ones though. Too bad Alpha Centauri is 10.6.8 as well.


Was really hoping they would have 'Shadow President'. Used to have this on my PC back in the 90's and loved this game.

I'm going to have to dig in here a bit. I have Parallels so I imagine I'll find plenty of games here :)
 
GOG is superb. I've downloaded almost all of the old classic TSR and AD&D games, the Might & Magic series, and the entire Interplay library (I am a Descent nut).

Most games work great immediately, if it's a Windows title I use crossover and have had zero problems.

However, I do prefer Steam simply because my XBox 360 taught me that I'm an achievement whore, love playing games but I gotta have my cheevos.

Can I ask a maybe a stupid question, but what are the old TSR and AD&D titles you got from GoG ?
 
Yes, first thing I did when I found the email in my box was to go straight away to GOG and buy & download Tie Fighter.

Geez, maybe now I can think of getting rid of my old Lombard's and Pismo's...I'm not sure I need them anymore to run Tie Fighter...nah, I still use them to run OS 9 :D

No problem. Baldur's Gate I and II, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale I and II, and a few others. If you're looking for the old gold box classics, um . . . They're out there, for cheap.

If you only have time for one of the above, I can't recommend Planescape enough. It's fantastic.

Thanks for that, I have all them :) for one moment I really thought you was talking about the old gold box games, thought they may have been on there once and I missed them and then they got removed has some games do from time to time.

I have many of gold box games and can run them under Boxer which is a wonderful piece of software, every Mac user who games and loves the old stuff should be using Boxer.
 
Definitely picking up X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Both come with the old DOS version and the later released Windows 95 remakes. The former definitely run with Boxer based on first-hand experience. The latter should run well with Wine and hence probably also Crossover, according to the WineHQ database.

They've been updated to run on newer Macs and OS X.

In case that wasn't a rhetorical question...at the time it was big (BIG!) news that it was a "Playstation 4 Console Exclusive." The usual interwebbers read "Exclusive" and neglected to tie it to the preceding word...

Anyway, I thought I had a rant about game development being so $$$ that it was hard to release solely for one console; they would have to re-coup their money by releasing to PC...my comment about this was probably buried in there, and nobody read or understood it. (found it, was
