Goin 2 the Apple store..got some questions (gfx designer)

Hi I'm going to the apple store to look at the macbook pros before I order one and I was wondering what kind of things I should look check before buying one? Things like Matte VS Gloss, the different colors, etc. I'm a gfx designer so I want to get everything that would help me out more like some people said Matte over Gloss because of the colors. Anything else I should be looking for?

I have a Glossy BlackBook (black Macbook). The colors are better than anything I've seen on a notebook, but the matte keeps the glare away. Also, if you store your graphics, you might want to get a larger hard drive and more memory.

Get 2GB RAM especially for CS2 which isn't universal yet, other than that you'll be set, though it might be wise to wait for CS3 and buy then.

get 3GB of RAM! It's expensive, but RAM is awesome and speeds mostly everything up

Also, keep in mind that while the glossy screen has more brilliant color saturation, the accuracy of said colors are far worse. If you're interested in accurate colors as a graphics designer, then glossy is not for you. Go with matte.

Another vote for the matte display here. Apart from what was already mentioned, if you are doing web design, you don't want to see the colours in a very different way than your clients and the users who will visit the page in the end.

Ditto. Go with the matte finish.


Neither is perfect (laptop LCDs are never fantastic, no matter how bright they are), but the matte is going to be better for you as a graphic designer. The glossy is great for everything else, though, but not for people who need to calibrate their screens.
