going back to regular firmwares (1g)

Hey.

I have an original iPhone, unlocked and jailbroken way back on 1.1.4 or so. It's currently running 2.1. I'm wondering - I don't use any of the unofficial applications, I'm using it on the same network (o2) as it's uh, supposed to be on... would it be safe to just let iTunes grab the 2.2 update and future updates? Or is that sure to brick it?

1) You can't brick your iPhone. You honestly have to make an effort to brick one of the devices. (Same goes for Apple, by the way -- there's nothing that iTunes/Apple will do to brick your phone.) At worst, you're looking at wasting a couple minutes restoring the firmware.

2) If it's on a legitimate tariff (i.e. the one with which it was originally sold), then you should be able to update to the latest firmware with no problems whatsoever.

Yes, I just did this, with an O2 Simplicity SIM in it, started from 1.1.4 and everything works fine.

Get latest iTunes, and then update the phone through it.
