iPod Going Classic -> Touch 128GB..recommend?

While my Classic is still ticking away with no problems whatsoever, I know that it's going to die someday. I am considering on putting the 128GB iPod Touch on my long-term shopping list to replace my Classic with when that day comes. Would that be a worthwhile investment?

I know that iPod modding is definitely a thing, and there are tons of modding-related posts where people have swapped out their hard drives with SSDs or SD card readers. However, modding isn't really for me, hence this possibility.

My music library is around 100GB, so I'm confident it'll fit the Touch. The Touch also won't be used for anything else BUT music. I don't mind having no access to Apple Music because I don't have a subscription anyway.

Off the top of my head as to benefits and drawbacks based on my experience with a 4G iPod Touch and a number of iPhones:

Benefits:
- More versatility with headphones - Bluetooth, Lightning (Lightning headphones or DACs/amps), regular headphones
- Non-obsolete (yet) or wireless connection for syncing with iTunes
- Choice of third-party music player app (Cesium comes to mind)

Drawbacks:
- Touchscreen ==> no more blind swiping or pressing other than volume control
- Shorter battery life per full charge

Anything else I'm not taking into consideration? Or should I say "screw this" and look at non-Apple alternatives?

I'm in a similar position to yourself. I've got an black 80GB classic that still works fine, but like you said, is on borrowed time. I've not got the confidence to mod mine myself, I've been looking at getting one off ebay that's already had the work done. I've seen a few around the £250 mark. Failing that I'd like to find an outlet that would do the work for me. I've looked at the touch but I've semi ruled it out, the cost of one doesn't really justify the meagre boost in storage over my 80GB. My music library is around 120GB, so I've almost filled it before I've begun. A 256GB SSD modded classic is the way to go for me I think.

What you have is a great unit. Have a service replace the battery and change it over to flash memory.
