Going from 1.0.2 to 1.1.4 - is this the way?

A friend has given me his unlocked 1.0.2 to upgrade to 1.1.4. Do I just need to use iTunes to upgrade to 1.1.4 (which will of course brick the phone) and then run ZIPhone to repair, jailbreak and unlock? Or do I need to upgrade to 1.1.1 and virginize the baseband before going any further?

Just upgrade it in iTunes and use ziPhone - it's what I do but can be somewhat risky. Wait to see if there are any other solutions.

Just wanted to add the fact that I have done the same upgrade some while back, and haven't experience any problems.
Although using ZiPhone seems to be the most dangerous method, I have the feeling more people have done it the ZiPhone way than not.

Due to the fact that more safer tools are out there I would suggest you use Pwnage tool. For Windows users we have WINPWN and for Mac is the Pwnage tool.

Use those tools instead, they are easier, safer and by far better to run. There is a sticky on Pwnage on this forum.

If you want to use a similar method to ZiPhone then use iLiberty+.

I wish people would stop recommending ZiPhone as one of these newbies is going to use ZiPhone and end up with a permanently broken iPhone anytime soon and its not even neccessary to risk it by using ZiPhone.

Thats my concern. By the way ZiPhone can cause issues when you use pwnage tool or BootNeuter and lots of people will find they can't upgrade to 2.0 when its out because ZiPhone has messed up their phones.

I agree with jav6454 that Pwnage tool is the best now.

So, if you can use that tool.. do it.

Mind you, I am not recommending ZiPhone here, but does anyone know if ZiPhone has gotten better now they're @ version 3.0+?

Hi, I read that Winpwn only works for 1.1.4-2.0. What do I use to re-virginize and upgrade a 1.1.1?
