I did the same thing. Went from a pro to a pro max. No regrets in terms of screen size. The phone is bigger and a bit heavier so I did have some minor issues putting them in jacket pockets and putting on seatbelt in a zipped up jacket.

In short, you will enjoy the additional screen real estate (and a bigger cost).
I hope so, and I'm fine with that :)

Well, I did regret trying to move from a 13 mini to a 14 Pro, so I returned the latter phone and kept the former instead of trading it in :) The mini is just absolutely perfect! I’m 6’ tall with average hands but I just can’t jive with these oversized devices that offer little (if any) differing functionality.
Well that's a drastic change. It's like going from an X1 to an X5 — try the X3 first :)

It was a 14 Pro, not Pro Max. :)

I did have an iPhone 12 before the 13 mini, which was mostly fine, but now that I've settled in with the mini it feels nigh impossible to move back up to even that 6.1" size.

Ah, right — read that wrong :) My wife has the 12 mini right now, and she loves the size, but isn't happy with the camera. So I'm giving her my 13 pro, when I get the 14 pro or the pro max!! :)))
Sad part is — they won't be making any more minis it seems. :(

I'm triggered.

The camera on the 12 wasn't bad, but I do quite enjoy the one on my 13 mini. :) Hope she enjoys your old Pro and that you enjoy the new device.

It's not a bad camera by any means, but my wife has a travel company, the lack of optical zoom — limits her in what she can shoot. She hates getting new devices so it's actually very unusual for her to want to upgrade so soon, but she kept complaining to me about how people in her travel groups who have "three cameras on their phones" take much much better pictures :D

Interesting.. so you like the larger form factor. 'Cause the screen on the X was the same as that on an 8plus.
I think for me what really matters is the battery life. After updating to iOS 16.1 my iP 14PM combined with the MagSafe Battery Pack holds 2 days. With the normal Pro or the X I barely got 1 day battery life.
the screen on the X was 5,8’ and on the 6 Plus 5,5. Then on the regular pro 6,1 and now on the pro max 6,7.

Yea, I'm hoping for that 1.5-2 day battery life.. :)

Going for a Max for the first time this year. This is coming from a guy that went from 7 to X to 12 Pro. I never had a Plus or Max sized phone before.

Main reason is because I realize I'm not a very mobile person. I work in an office and if I'm not working in the office, I'm working remotely from home -- so I'm not out and about all the time needing to use the phone one-handed.

Other reason is because the 14 Pro looks so top heavy with the giant camera. I heard the weight distribution is also uncomfortable using one hand. Might as well get the bigger model to distribute the weight more evenly as well as enjoy the better battery life and the bigger screen.

Yea, the dynamic island on the regular sized Pro does look more overwhelming than on the Max!

Good point, I didn't even think of that. But I actually meant the back camera. On the Max it basically takes up 1/2 the phone width but on the Pro it is almost 2/3.

Ah, yes, that too :) But I mostly look at the front of the phone. But yes — the camera is huge, this year even more so.

I went from X to 14PM 2 days ago. The screen is amazing. I can’t see myself going back to smaller screens.
Major advantages are 1) The bigger screen, 2) the bigger keyboard, 3) the bigger battery. For browsing and content viewing it is actually fine with 1 hand. For writing you need two hands to be fast, although you can also type with 1 hand but it takes practice and it is slower. I do not have big hands.
That’s literally exactly what I’m thinking about doing! I’ll definitely take what you’ve said into consideration.

It feels impossible, but now that I’ve done it the Max doesn’t feel too out of place.

I’d still like a smaller iPhone. Unfortunately I’ve never really liked the 6.1” size, even if that’s the only current-generation option besides iPhone SE. My only complaints with the Max is that it can be overly distracting being so immersive, it tends to stick out of pockets, and the typing experience one-handed isn’t nearly as comfortable now that I have more experience with smaller iPhones.

Understandable, except the 13 mini is still practically current-gen, having an A15, albeit with one less CPU core

Agreed, I would consider it to be as current-generation as an iPhone 14. I was going to add the PWM caveat, but I figure it might be overplayed. I want another iPhone 13 Mini, but I know the headaches won’t be any different. At least the iPhone 14 generation is improved in that regard.

I am enjoying the benefits of doing this. In fact with the better battery, easier to ready screen I wish I did it sooner.
Won’t lie though, I do wish the phone was a little lighter in weight, but that problem affects the normal sized Pro too.

I noticed I can literally see the 13 Mini/normal 13 flicker sometimes. Noticed it during setup and also in dark screen situations. I don’t think it gives me any health issues but it‘s very off-putting. Shame because the Mini is the perfect size and weight with this stupid squared-off-side generation of iPhones.

My 14PM FINALLY arrived earlier this week, so now I'm on like day 3 with it)) I kinda set up myself up for failure 'cause I have my 13P to my wife and used here 12 mini for about 2 weeks, so going from that to the PM was awful, but now I'm starting to adjust to it. The weight doesn't bother me so much, it's more of how it sits in my hand, but I think I will get used to it. When I was using the 13P, at time it felt like it was a bit small...)

The weight doesn't bother me too much, but it does turn some of my pockets inside out when I take it out))))

No regrets whatsoever. I’m actually disappointed I didn’t make the transition back with the XS series.

I honestly never wanted the larger phone, but in the last few months I started to notice that my normal size phone feels a bit small. Maybe it's old age :D
