hi,

back in April i went from using my PC to sync my contacts to Google for OTA syncing, it is easier for me to do this because i don't have to worry about connecting my phone to my computer, but now that iCloud is coming soon and that i am going to be getting my mac here in a week or so, how when iCloud hits the market, will i get everything that is on Google over to iCloud!
thanks!

That's still up in the air. We aren't sure how apple will allow us to merge our separate apple id's into icloud.

You'll switch be forwarding all your mail to that new email... however if you have itunes purchases on that gmail account. Those will not transfer, that's what i was getting at when i said it's uncertain how itunes purchases will transfer.

I think there will be multiple ways to do it. I think you said you were getting a Mac. Once you get your Mac maybe you can export to contacts from Google and Import them into your Address Book on your Mac. From there you could upload into iCloud (I assume since you can do that with MobileMe). For your Calendar you can subscribe to it from the Cal App on the Mac. Once you connect to iCloud Application I think you would be able to copy your events over to the iCloud Calendar. I also read just last night that the Lion Mail now supports Exchange and Google Looks like Exchange so maybe the Contacts and Calendar will also be supported that way. Once you have access I think you would want to move the data out of Google and into iCloud if your goal is to drop Google.

update to iOS5, turn off google syncing, turn on iCloud syncing and that should do the trick :) when turning off google syncing let it leave the contacts etc on the device, that's what i did but with hotmail exchange

Hi JMWalter, I am curious, why do you want to stop using Google? I am asking because I am a MobileMe customer thinking about skipping iCloud and moving to Google instead. But I don't know. Why are you leaving Google for iCloud?

Google(Apps)

I am using GoogleApps on my personal domain, and synching via Google couldn't be easier (and it is free).

This works not only for my own account, but also those of my wife, brother, Mom and Dad.

To me it is simple, and it works seamlessly once set-up... and it is free.

If you just use Apple kit iCloud will surely work better than Google services. And with iCloud being free I guess a lot of other people will come back.

Read section 11.1 on the Google TOS. I wouldn't call that free. I would rather be a customer than a product.
