Going from iTunes 12 to 11

Hi, I'm sure this is a simple question but I did a quick search and couldn't really find any answers. I'm on PB2, and want to delete my iTunes 12 and go back to iTunes 11 while staying on PB2. My main concern is I don't want to lose all my playlists, etc. iTunes 12 just doesn't work good, especially with iOS 8.

Someone in the iOS 8 sub forum said to just use appzapper and delete, iT 12 and download iT 11 from Apple. I just wanted to make sure this is the best way to do it without losing playlists and more.

EDIT: I didn't read through your entire post. Yes, I can confirm using AppZapper will work. Just remember to rename or make a copy of your iTunes-folder.

Here's what I did:

- download and install AppZapper (appzapper.com)
- rename your iTunes-folder, which is normally located in your Music-folder (this contains all of your iTunes-library info and by renaming it, it will be saved from the next couple of steps)
- open AppZapper
- drop the iTunes-app from the Applications-folder into AppZapper (this will completely remove everything related to iTunes, except your renamed library)
- download and install iTunes 11
- rename your library back to iTunes

EDIT: Oh and, if your main concern for wanting to downgrade was because of the "softbrick" problems upgrading to iOS8 - remember that the latest iTunes 12 beta, which came today, fixes those problems.

iTunes 12 just doesn't seem to sync well with iOS 8 (at least for me). Songs are missing even though they are supposed to be on the device and a whole lot of other problems.

I did all of the things you said (except renaming the folder, this was before you posted) and got an error that my itunes couldn't open because the library was made by a newer version. Do I need to delete my previous iTunes libraries also? And will this effect my playlists? Thanks

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this stuff, so I'm afraid I can't come with any further suggestions. The only thing I know is that the iTunes-folder is what holds your playlists, artwork etc. and if it tells you to it can't be accessed, then maybe you need to go back to v12 again and retry. I would not try to delete the folder, if thats the folder you've always been using by default. Thats for sure. Hopefully someone else can help you out. Sorry.

Delete itunes.library.it and version 11.4 should work, you will have to log back in especially if you use itunes match want to do future purchases.

A quick google told me this was iTunes 12. I'm not quite sure how this downloaded - as my AppStore is set to always ask before downloading.

Anyway, long story short. How do I get iTunes 11 back?

I have a library which I share between my main laptop and my old laptop which runs 10.6 as a media server. Since 10.6 can not run iTunes12, I want both laptops running the same iTunes11 so they can share the library.

Please help...

This is exactly what happen to me, itunes forced the update on me. Not sure how to get back iTunes 11

Rename iTunes.app (v11) to iTunes 11.app and keep iTunes 12 as iTunes.app installed next to it. Maybe that would work.

Thanks for the suggestion, however having managed to do this (took some time as the iTunes.app would not easily copy (had to package in tar) the version of iTunes11 from my 10.6.8 machine just stops responding when I try and launch it under 10.9.5...

Any other suggestions or options?
