I must have absolutely the worst luck ever because I am going on my fourth iPhone 3GS. The first one I bought started to turn off for no reason and in my profession that cannot happen (I'm a medical resident so I have to be able to get phone calls to respond to emergencies.) So since the phone was so new Apple replaced it with a brand new phone, shrink wrap still on the box. So, the second brand new one I received, well, the bluetooth didn't work at all so I took that to a Apple Store and had that replaced with a refurb. So I got that phone up and running and thought everything was fine, well the GPS does not work on this phone but when I take the sim card out of the phone and put it in my 3G the GPS locks right on to my exact location and when I drive it also keeps up with me, where the 3GS is no where close to where I am.

So I called Apple today and talked to them about it, I am very happy with their response/actions. They have offered to send me a brand new iPhone, shrink wrap on the box and I gladly accepted. So I am pretty excited to be getting a new phone but I swear, if this phone has any problems I am buying a new HTC phone and saying goodbye to the iPhone sadly.

Anyone else have as many issues as I've had with 3GS's??

That all sounds very uncharacteristic of Apple. No product line is ever perfect but the likely hood of getting two bad brand new 3GS's and one bad refurb seems slim. I'll wish you the best with this last one!

That all sounds very uncharacteristic of Apple.

Actually, it sounds typical of Apple. I've been using Apple products since 1982, and I can assure you that Apple's QC has declined heavily in the past decade. When I bought my current MacBook, I had to return three MacBooks before I finally found one without dead pixels.

Don't listen to the fanboys who tell you to "Deal with it." Since you are paying a premium price, you deserve a premium product, i.e., one with no flaws.

Well at least all this has happend with a company like Apple who has amazing customer support (at least in my experiences.) I feel like if it was any other company I'd be s*it out of luck after 4 bad experiences, and they definitely wouldn't send me a brand new one.

I called today at 1:23 eastern time...I received the shipping labels at about 3:30, called FedEx to pick up the package, they picked it up about 4:30 and my new phone is officially on it's way. Could receive it Monday.

I disagree with the poster about Apple having a lot more QC issue I too have been using Apple products since the early 80's in which time I have owned, for myself or companies, more than 300 apple products with only 5 having any issues whatsoever during the life of the product. Yes there are going to be occasional ones with issues, but definitely not even close to other companies I use. So yes, I would say you just got extremely unlucky. My whole company (albeit only 23 employees) use iphones I bought them (started with original and have since upgraded 15 to 3GS's and 8 with 3G's) and never had any issues with any of them.

Yea, I know a ton of people with iPhone's that have never had one issue and they throw their phones around, and don't take care of them, I baby my iPhone like crazy. I'm always cleaning the screen with a cloth, I rarely put it in my pocket because it scratches the bezel, I have never dropped one iPhone at all.

Extremely unlucky is an understatement.

Ouch. I know someone who went through the same issues and had to get a new iPhone over and over again. She was frustrated, no kidding. Not sure what she ended up doing after that. So, what I would like to suggest is if you believe that you will most likely have problems with your new iPhone, then simply switch to a phone which you think is quite suitable and hope for the best!

Maybe just bad luck...

The fact that you have so many weird things going wrong with your phone may be bad luck, or it could be a strange bug in your backup information or content. I have seen some very crazy issues resulting from funky software. Try using your new phone without getting all of your info from the backup. Simply resync the info, but start it "as a new phone." You'll lose your text messages and info within 3rd party apps, but everything else should sync to the computer. It's strange that something different has happened every time, but it still could be software caused.

I have to agree with the QC post. I don't know if any of you work at studios that actually utilize macs and push them to their limits, but having done so, I have seen a sharp decline over the past few years. Although only a few people's iphones have had issues where I work, the computers are a whole different story. We had 9 UMBP's die, out of 20, 2 of which the replacements also failed. All of our G5 liquid cool systems, yes all 26 of them, had issues (not just the liquid cooling problems), and we did not even attempt to replace them, so we reverted to G4's until the Mac Pro's were released. 6 out of 26 of those failed as well. Only 1 mac pro replacement failed, luckily. And no, we don't use new mac pro's as office/email/powerpoint style computers, that'd be an utter waste of money. Our macs are used for what I thought they were made for; hard work. But I will say, we now have 50+ G4's accumulated that were from our early production days that are actually used for office-style work that isn't very intensive, and not one of them has failed. Could be coincidence, but that's some heck of a coincidence. One of our competing companies has switched to all Dell due to similar problems, but I still like to think that, if working properly, our macs can whoop their computers ;) So yeah...quality just isn't the same...
