Hey everyone, I've never posted here though I have been reading posts and advise for some time now. I have a problem. Maybe not a problem, but help making a decision. I currently work with and emac 1ghz. Love it, but I am traveling abroad soon and need a laptop. I first thought of the 12" powerbook, but in light of all this intel mumbojumbo I started reconsidering. I waited for the macbook to come out but I am not keen on the screen nor the keyboard. The new laptop will be used for music, and pictures. Eventually I would like to get into some more complex apps, and stuff. I love the feel of the powerbook style and decided to go for the 15" macbookpro. I ordered it, and now I am having second thoughts. I am hearing of the merom coming soon, and I am thinking maybe I would be better off with the 12" pb to hold me over until the intel line gets established. All help and suggetions are welcome and encouraged. Thanks.

If you really desperately need a Laptop rite now then you can buy a MBP if you wish. But waiting for just 2.5 months will be a better option as you`ll be getting completely new chips for the same price. But if you want something to hold you through then go for a used iBook G4 instead. There`ll be a lot of them on sale as MB has been launched. The diff in performance is not really huge between G4 ibook n PowerBook. Especially coz you might not be using it for more than 3 months. Try n find a good deal on ebay. IMO if you buy an iBook now and sell it 3-4 months later; you wont lose more than 100-150$ at most.

I m sure you`ve only heard bout them and havent used a MB in person. I m posting through one rite now. The keyboard did look a bit odd at first but after using it for a whole day now; I actually find it better than the iBook 12" one.
The screen is the best yet in a consumer Lappy by Apple. It`s not like those cheap compaq laptops. It`s way better than the iBook and PB G4. As far as outdoors is concerned; I havent tried it yet, But I did try my iBook a few times and believe me I couldnt see a thing. This screen might actually prove to be better than iBook`s screen when you are out under sun.
I have seen and played around with the macbook, and I did like the options, though I am hesitant due to the mirroring in the screen. The keyboard, I could probably deal. Another question I had was whats with the intergrated graphics. If someone could explain how this could hinder future use that would be great. I'm looking to upgrade in capabilities from the emac. It has served it's purpose, but I need to move on.
its a thousand dollar laptop. youve been waiting for it for ever. you dont need the power of a dedicated card with what your doing. the macbook is fine. a really sweat machine. i cant believe you bought the 15. you must have money to burn. anyway, in short i would rather of spent a grand on a laptop thats going to be outdated by new chips soon rather than forking over the money for a 15 and havent the chip be updated in 2.5 months. actually after owning a laptop for five years 
and still running strong, i wont spend that much on a laptop again. my next step is to get a real work station and then get a cheap laptop for "satellite" use...like laying in bed, kicking back outside, or for trips and the macbook is perrrrrrfect for that.

want to thank everyone for your help. I went a picked out a macbook today upgraded to 1gig. It is nice. I read someone saying that they didn't have any problem running photoshop, but the apple sales told me that I would have trouble. What do you think.

Of course apple reps are going to tell you that, but it will just run slower. For the nonprofessional, I'd seriously doubt if it would be a problem at all.
