Hello all, my only Apple hardware is an iPod 4G 32GB, I'm going to sell my Blu-Ray player/CD player etc and purchase a base model 2011 Mac Mini, which will run through a Marantz AVR and a 50" Samsung Plasma to run full quality MKV's via Plex.

I plan to upgrade the machine as soon as it arrives, I'm going to put in 8GB RAM, a 64GB+ SSD, plus switch out the standard HDD for a 750-1TB 9.5mm HDD.

I see that you lucky folks in the USA can buy upgrade kits that come with the screwdrivers and HDD cable that's needed all in one nice bundle, I'm in the UK though, so was wondering where's the cheapest place to buy the cable, and what kit will I need to install the SSD+HDD? Can anyone link me what equipment I need?

Thanks in advance.

Do not exchange the standard 3.5" 500GB HDD with a different one because the fans will spin up due to some temp sensor other drives don't have.
Check google and this forum on how people exchanged HDD's without getting this problem, someone did find a solution I think.

Aren't you confusing the 2011 iMac with the 2011 Mac Mini? The 2011 Mac Mini uses 2.5" HDDs and doesn't have the custom temperature monitoring of the 2011 iMac.

iFixit does ship their kit internationally.

ahh bollucks. I read the title as "Getting to get my first iMac" :D and I seemed to have jumped the part where it said Mac Mini :D My bad. scratch that what I wrote

Ok guys thanks, didn't realise they did international too, problem is seems to be around $30 shipping which would make it $100 (whatever that works out to in £'s) which is very pricey, if there's a cheaper method for a Brit then that would be ace...:)
