My desktop that I back up to only has USB-A connections. So I need a cable with male USB-A on one end and USB-C on the other. Could not find any at the Apple store so my only other choice is to buy a dongle from Amazon. Bought a couple that were listed USB3.

Something to think about if you make regular encrypted backups to iTunes.

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot about the USB-C. I bought a nice A to C cable awhile back for charging my Switch on the road -- I *think* I'll be able to use that to sync to my Macbook Pro for at least the initial sync, then probably just do wifi sync after that.

But you need to connect it once for iTunes to recognize the iPad, and able to turn on WiFi sync :D

Oops, true. Forgot that was necessary. :p

Although if you restore from a previous iCloud backup made from a device that had already been connected to iTunes, instead of setting up the iPad Pro as new, I believe iTunes would recognize it. Not sure though...

Also I wonder whether the settings transfer feature in iOS 11 and later (the one that requires you point your camera at a cloud of swirling pixels) would also enable iTunes wifi sync if the device it’s syncing settings from already has iTunes wifi sync enabled.
