hey,
it's my first post...go easy on me, haha. i've been lurking for a while.

i hate my pc. it's awful. so...
i'm planning on picking up the 2.0ghz macbook. part of me wants to wait for leopard and ilife07, but honestly, the current models will do more than enough for me. the only thing i'm wondering about is ram.

i want to use programs like logic, garageband, and reason. no video editing, only audio - softsynths and the previously mentioned programs. this makes me think i should upgrade to 2gb of ram. if i need/decide to do this (it is stretching my budget a bit), will they do it in the store (and any ideas on how long it'd take?)?

if i decide to wait, i know that as long as i get ram that'll definitely work with a mac that the install is simple (i've done ram upgrades myself on pcs), but will it affect my warranty?

sorry for all the questions & thanks in advance-

Go for it the 2.0Ghz macbook will be great. And no upgrading the ram dosent mess with the warranty. Also I would reccomend not buying ram from apple. You can get it much cheaper other places.

you can get the upgrade online (no clue about instore) for a pretty good price. As far as i can see, looking at educational price for canada store its probably cheaper to get the 2Gb when you buy it.

edit: actually i just researched ebay and if you intend to sell there, i see some 2x 512's going for 80$ so i guess it may be cheaper to buy afterwards

The stock 2.0GHz comes with 2x512 already, so buying another 2x512 would be useless, I don't think you can fit 4 RAM modules into two slots. Apple gives you 2x1GB for $157 (EDU) when you buy online.

The apple store will upgrade the RAM for you right there and it should take no more than 5 minutes. THe apple store is reliable but the RAM is overpriced by a long shot! Do it yourself, I would hightly recommend it and it is not that hard. The black macbook is more money only for the casing. The top of the line white Macbook is the same as the black but cheaper. Good luck!

What i meant was that you could SELL your 2x 512Mb modules on ebay and that money would go towards your already purchased upgrade. Not getting 4 lol
