Do it! IIRC gold plating that big of a surface area is around $150 in gold and maybe another $75 in labor, but of course that all depends on how thick of a coat and how many links you get plated.
I bought my SS Series 5 gold plated from eBay and paid about $900. They didn’t do that great of a job, so I polished it off. I bought a gold plating kit off Etsy and I couldn’t get it to work.
Regarding getting your watch gold plated, I went to my city’s jewelry district and found a place, but they were going to charge $400, which I thought was too much. Maybe other places would be cheaper, but it’s a risky procedure regardless because the Apple Watch is an electronic device and in order to electroplate it, it’s got to be bathed several times in different solutions.
I finally went to the Apple store the other day to check out the new gold SS watch, and it honestly isn’t all that “goldy”. It’s more subtle, but under some light, it doesn’t look gold at all. Maybe some people would like it, but personally, if I want a gold watch, I want it to look like yellow gold - not the bronze “gold” of the previous generations or the “subtle gold” now. It probably won’t match with any third party gold bracelets you can find in Amazon or eBay. Those are generally pretty yellow.
I wonder why Apple never made a SS version that’s like really yellow gold. I’m sure it has to do with the fact that if they did, it would kill Rolex or other luxury watch sales. Maybe they have some sort of agreement with these watchmakers to prevent that. Who knows?
