So, with my 60th birthday coming up, when Apple announced that the S7 would not have the blood-sugar monitoring I decided to go ahead and buy myself the S6 as an appropriately grand birthday gift. So I purchased, from Target, my first AW, the S6 40mm (rose)gold.

But after about a day, I came to the conclusion that I can't see s*%t and I certainly can't read the face of my AW - even with the font at the largest size and bold. Plus, I was regretting the compatibility of the rose gold coloring with some of the bands that I was hoping to acquire. The color just seemed limiting. So, I marched back to Target, receipt in hand, and returned the (rose)gold 40mm for a space gray 44mm.

I was happy. But from my reading, and watching my college-age daughters wear their S3 aluminum AWs I knew that the body and the face were subject to scratches and marks over time. So, I dutifully bought several cases and applied them to my SG aluminum watch each day. But the more I read, and the more pictures I saw In. This. Forum., I came to hate the look of the cases I needed to wear to keep my watch from looking worn.

My previous timepiece was a Rolex (with its sapphire face) and I saw that despite 20 years of wear, the stainless steel had acquired a matte patina, while the crystal still looked as good-as-new. I knew that something harder than stainless steel would show less wear and that the sapphire crystal was the way to go - if my goal was to keep my new watch looking new.

So, back to the Target I marched and returned my SG aluminum 44mm. Bless them and their 14 day return policy. I had already ordered the titanium in the 44mm the night before and then danced across the street to the Apple store to pick it up. And it is a beauty! I love the soft brushed look of the finish and the way the gray color matches all of the bands I own (and hope to own!). So, this story has a happy ending.

Anyone else go through these kind of machinations before settling on THE ONE for them? Or am I the only goofy gal out there. Ha.

There were certainly many user that „tested the waters“ with the cheapest Watch and later went to a higher-end model, but you may have made this journey the fastest. :D Congrats for the Titanium, it‘s really beautiful. I had the Ti S5 and strongly consider it again for the S7 (if still available).

I just did the one transaction but I do have concerns about the screen getting scratched. I went with the aluminium body so no sapphire glass, but I have a plastic screen protector on. At some point I’ll run out of them and then I’ll chance it without. As it gets towards the end of its life I’ll see how well the ion glass handles a couple of inevitable routine knocks.

Yours looks great. Nice combo.

It has worked well for me.

I tend to wear my watches under a sleeve and find that makes a dramatic difference. I'm most definitely not wearing my prized JLC or Omegas "bare" :). For example, even after 18 months of regular use my AW aluminium has not even a single scratch or mark of any kind and looks like it was just unboxed.

My wife went through multiple watches when getting her first one. Started with a S1 but decided she wanted the brighter display of the S2. Also had a color change in there due to availability. We now have S4s and she uses a variety of cases and bands. I only use a couple of different bands and no cases. I wear my watch all the time when doing things like renovations on my house, gardening, and woodworking. Nary a scratch. Bunch of scratches on my hands and arms but watch is fine.

Curious, have you experimented with the green scrubbing pads from Scotch Brite? Just curious because I’ve seen some people say they’ve used it and that product looks almost identical.
Yeah it wouldn’t surprise me if the watch company product is nothing special. But it’s not my watch (yet) so not trying to experiment haha. And it was a Christmas gift/service I gave. Although giving a scotch brite under the tree would be hilarious.

I don’t see Apple Watch in the same category as a Rolex for example. Apple Watch will certainly not last as long as those & for that reason I deal with them as I do with any other electronic gadgets. I buy the cheapest option out of the entire line and just put a screen protector on. Visibility and touch sensitivity is absolutely fine on my S4 aluminium and also there’s not a single scratch on it.

Are you saying you don't wear your Omega watch when wearing a t shirt or short sleeve shirt because it might get scratched or nicked? If yes, why just not leave it in a display case 24/7 in your house? I had a Omega Seamaster for years and did not baby it. A couple of scratches on the bezel but the screen was perfect. These are tools to be used when living your life. Obviously not everyone shares my viewpoint.

Believe me, @akash.nu, I spent the better part of a year thinking about this transition away from an analog watch and to something electronic. I have the Rolex and a Cartier and would switch between the 2 every couple of years. It came down to me being available to my college-age daughters without being chained to my phone - think at the the grocery store, or having a beer with friends (now that we can do that again!). It was with a heavy heart that I put the Rolex back in its box until who knows when. But I am resigned to my choice, happy to be available to the world, and delighted with my titanium S6 44mm - which I can comfortably rock with no case or screen protector. Thanks for your comment.

I had the same issues as you with the legibility of some of the Apple Watch faces (I'm an old). Just checking in to make sure you're aware of the various watch faces available. I've got a version of the above on my watch for when I'm out and will need instant legibility.

Good luck!

Thanks @PatrickCocoa, my legibility issue was mostly around reading texts, which was why I bought an AW in the first place. But I do love those large, beautiful numbers!

I just upgraded from Aluminum to Titanium today and couldn't be happier. Yes, it was expensive for what it is, but I don't have any regrets. Like you, I have plenty of mechanicals; Omega, Tudor, Seiko, Hamilton, Heuer, etc. I really enjoy my mechanical collection, but if push came it shove, and I could only wear one watch, it would be an Apple Watch. It's that valuable of a communications, health, and timekeeping device to me.

Regarding scratches and dings on the titanium AW, I have the Omega Speedmaster with the hesalite crystal. That thing will scratch if you just look at it. However, all of those scratches tell a story and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

I've always had aluminum watche from day one. Never had an issue with scratches or scuffs. This series, I first bought a S6 SG Aluminum Nike (I wanted the Nike faces).....then I bought an S5 Stainless Steel from one of the Best Buy sales.......and then I bought an S5 ceramic. :) So, yeah, I get it....only difference is, I kept all three and I rotate them. Can't bear the thought of parting with any of the three. I'm glad you had the option to really test drive the sizes and colors to find what works best for you!!
