So, with my 60th birthday coming up, when Apple announced that the S7 would not have the blood-sugar monitoring I decided to go ahead and buy myself the S6 as an appropriately grand birthday gift. So I purchased, from Target, my first AW, the S6 40mm (rose)gold.
But after about a day, I came to the conclusion that I can't see s*%t and I certainly can't read the face of my AW - even with the font at the largest size and bold. Plus, I was regretting the compatibility of the rose gold coloring with some of the bands that I was hoping to acquire. The color just seemed limiting. So, I marched back to Target, receipt in hand, and returned the (rose)gold 40mm for a space gray 44mm.
I was happy. But from my reading, and watching my college-age daughters wear their S3 aluminum AWs I knew that the body and the face were subject to scratches and marks over time. So, I dutifully bought several cases and applied them to my SG aluminum watch each day. But the more I read, and the more pictures I saw In. This. Forum., I came to hate the look of the cases I needed to wear to keep my watch from looking worn.
My previous timepiece was a Rolex (with its sapphire face) and I saw that despite 20 years of wear, the stainless steel had acquired a matte patina, while the crystal still looked as good-as-new. I knew that something harder than stainless steel would show less wear and that the sapphire crystal was the way to go - if my goal was to keep my new watch looking new.
So, back to the Target I marched and returned my SG aluminum 44mm. Bless them and their 14 day return policy. I had already ordered the titanium in the 44mm the night before and then danced across the street to the Apple store to pick it up. And it is a beauty! I love the soft brushed look of the finish and the way the gray color matches all of the bands I own (and hope to own!). So, this story has a happy ending.
Anyone else go through these kind of machinations before settling on THE ONE for them? Or am I the only goofy gal out there. Ha.
