Ok so I am switching from AT&T to Verizon and I am considering the Galaxy S3, and the new iPhone. I know the new iPhone is basically guaranteed to be available for preorder Sept. 12th.. I've always been an iOS user and am currently using an iPhone 4S. I've used a Nexus 7 but never really used an Android phone.

My question is, if I get an S3 tomorrow (signing new 2 year contract) and I decide on the 12th that I actually do think I'll prefer the iPhone, what is Verizon's policy on doing an exchange like this?

Oh! and I see that taking info from a bunch of forum junkies at 4 a.m. is a lot smarter than waiting until the actual business to open, who can answer the question accurately would maker more sense.

I just figured someone might know, but I see posting here did nothing but get a completely unneeded response. Thanks for your wonderful insight.
 
VZW allows you to return the phone within 30 days I think but they charge a restocking fee. You have to decide if that is worth it to you. The 2 year upgrade price on the S3 is $213 (that includes the $30 upgrade fee). They claim that the $30 fee isn't charged to your card but it is so just plan on spending that up front I would say. They'll probably get rid of it somehow by crediting your account or whatever.

That said, they don't seem to budge on the restocking fee. I think they got wise to the fact that people tend to buy a phone, use it for a week or two and return it just so they can try it out. I can't exactly blame them but it screws it up for the people who are truly unhappy with the device and want something else. That being said, I think you need to sit on it for a couple of weeks and just wait until you know what the next iPhone will bring. Then decide what to buy.

Side note: It was 4 am where I am at when you posted. Chances are you're going to get snarky comments at any hour but more so in the middle of the night. I do it myself but VZW's return policy is probably posted on their website. ;)
 
In any case I would not recommend a 4/4S on Verizon due to CDMA. Might as well try out an S3 and worst case you have to pay a restocking fee and get the new iPhone. Btw I'm on Verizon an it's unbearable sometimes.
 
You guys need to read the OP's post. They aren't going to buy iPhone 4S on Verizon.

1. Most likely Sept 12th announcement (pre order is not Sept 12th...probably a few days later).
2. Verizon's return policy is 14 days (ATT's return policy is 14 days). So cutting is too close.

I'd suggest the OP "wait" until official Apple invites get sent out and not "assume any thing is guaranteed about the Sept 12th announcement since it's a 14 day window)

Verizon Wireless return policy is 14 days (even in California) plus $35 restocking fee.

You must cancel service within 3 days or else you lose your activation fee ($35 also give or take).

ATT's return policy is 30 days and also $35 restocking fee. (might as well just buy it from Amazon or Best Buy) Best Buy killed the restocking fees on almost everything item in Dec 2010 including cell phones.

Don't get it from a Verizon store if you are planning on returning it. I would say either wait it out or go to Best Buy. They have a very generous return policy on mobile phones. It's 30 day's and no restocking fee. The only thing you would want to make sure about is the EFT penalty for disconnecting from Verizon early, but i think you have 30 days to try out the service so you can figure out if the signal where you are is any good or not. But I burned though a whole crap ton of Android phones last year before I finally settled on one.

I went from 1.) Nexus S; 2.) Infuse 4G; 4.) Atrix 4G and finally 5.) Atrix 4g. The first Atrix was defective and needed to swap it out. But I did all that and $0.00 restocking fee.

Once again, regardless if it's Best Buy or Verizon or Amazon, you got 14 days to cancel the Verizon service. Sure you can return the phone to Best Buy or Amazon at 30 days, but you will be stuck with Verizon service or pay the ETF if you do not cancel within 14 days.

Read the fine print before signing up for a new wireless carrier. 30 day return policy helps if you want to stay with Verizon. But if you aren't happy with Verizon, you MUST cancel and return the phone to Best Buy or Amazon or Verizon within 14 days.

Thanks for getting the exact date. I did point out that they would want to check about the Verizon service cancellation dead line to avoid the EFT. But going with a regular store instead of a carrier store would ease the restocking fee that they would get hit with Verizon.

If you do get an Android phone, either make sure it has ICS or that it comes with an unlocked bootloader for installing Cyanogen or something.

Get the S3 Verizons 4g network is very widespread and literally 50 times faster than their 3g network. It literally is that big of a difference.
