Anyone know a good & cheap web host company....?
I'm really happy with Dreamhost.com.
They're employee owned with a fun sense of humor. The owner (I think he's the owner anyway) Josh writes ridiculous monthly updates and blog entries (blog here:
http://blog.dreamhost.com/). They're honest about issues on the network and work quickly to resolve them, and they have a blog for that too (

Their cheapest plan starts you off with
167 GIGAbytes of storage and
1.67 Terabytes of bandwidth. They honor those numbers too. I set up WebDAV on my account and use the space for backup. I also host my rather simple website (
www.jorj.net), but using the space for backup is most valuable to me. Plus there's a web interface for the WebDAV drive, of course, so you can also use it as remote storage and get at those files anywhere, from any computer with an internet connection. One of Josh's posts addressed the issue, how can they give away so much space and he had a reasonable point: they do in fact lose money on some people who maximize their space and bandwidth, however such amazing stats attract many more people who don't maximize their space and bandwidth and it's a net gain for the company.
