Good deal on 160 gb 7200 RPM Drive

Frequent reader, but infrequent poster here! Just wanted to let you all know that there is a good deal on a seagate 160 gb 7200 rpm drive here:

For those thinking of getting 160 gb drives, this is a good deal. The price is not that much more than a 5400 rpm drive with the same capacity. I have a 5400 rpm 160 gb drive, otherwise I would buy this one for my macbook!

newegg.com has the same drive at $109.99. And yes Seagate is very good. I only use Seagate or Hitachi, though much of this is personal preference based on prior experience with the companies.

This is a 160GB Seagate Momtenus 7200.2 drive. Newegg doesn't even carry it.



Anyway, I was going to post this earlier but got distracted and didn't want to hear the whole "changing you hard drive voids your warranty" thread-crapping again.

Be aware that in general we've got to assume this drive only holds a 90 day warranty through Dell and is not warrantied through Seagate (though this may not be the case, it is safer to err on the side of caution).

I picked this drive up from ComputerGiants when it was still scarce for $156 or so. I picked up one from Dell today for $77 after some eBay Dell Coupon excitement. Less than half price... amazing. Thinking about picking up an MCE OptiBay to run these bad boys in RAID :]

Most of the comments / contact with Dell have yielded either a 90 day or 1 year warranty (depending on who you talk to at CS) through DELL ONLY. We're under assumption that this drive will NOT be warrantied through Seagate.

If only it were as simple to swap out the hard drive on the MBP as it is on the Macbook. *sigh*
