I found an iMac G3/350 Mhz Indigo 64MB/6GB/Slot Load CD/56k/Keyboard/Mouse. It's $79.95 (minus shipping), I was wondering if this was worth spending the money on it.

These machines are OK, not really powerful enough for OSX. USB 1.1 No Firewire. Pain in the %^^ to change the CD-ROM for a burner or a DVD, The RAM is unusably low, so you have cost there.
The analog boards are the weak point on them, the screen starts shaking, or expanding and contracting in image size, then the machine shuts down unexpectedly... within a few days the machine will be toast. Matter of time only, more expensive than it is worth to fix.
I would rather spend the same money on a beige G3 desktop or tower - much more flexible.

The shipping was $42 I think, and it's funny because in our school's French classroom we have one, and whenever anybody uses the electric pencil sharpener the screen wiggles on the iMac. Thanks for the advice, this Mac wouldn't be for me btw.

Get an eMac 700Mhz G4. I've got a G3, anything below 600Mhz really isnt enough to run OS X well and Quartz Extreme support is a must I think the 16Mb Ati Rage Ultra may have support not sure..
Any way you'll get an excellent machine that is dual boot, cheap has a good G4 chip and upto 1Gb RAM. Most of all though, for snappy use, Geforce MX 32Mb VGA, which means Quartz Extreme folks... (oh and a decent enough hard drive 40Gb I think..you cantt really use OS X on anything less than 10Gb really otherwise you will have no programs just an OS)
Right, well you might be able to pick up a 400Mhz iMac DV w/ 10Gb HD and DVD player. Best bet is to upgrade the memory and load on Panther on it. I did that with mine (plus 40Gigs of HD), but I really have no use for it...I've actually put it on auction on eBay, if the reserve is met I shall sell, otherwise I WILL find a use for itamacgenius said:

A 500 or 600 MHz DV or SE model would be the only G3 iMac I would look at. Gotta have Firewire - even if it's only to transfer OSX into it. The DV models are more recent, the 350 and 400 MHz models are past their best-before date when it comes to hardware reliability.

um i don't quite know what constitutes a "DV" imac but i have 2 i'd be willing to sell, one of them is a slot loading imac G3 400mhz but its not really working, i'm sending it in for repair after christmas. the other is my fully functional imac G3 600 mhz, 1GB RAM. maybe we can work something out. pm or email me at ryan.r.phillips@gmail.com although unless the price is right i'm still not entirely sure i want to sell the 600 becasue i'm still using it on a regular basis

You sir are not logical. First off i have a Bondi iMac YES bondi running Panther with a 6GB HD and 96MB of RAM. It works fine,runs OS X fine not fast but fine. I also have a indigo iBook 366MhZ it has a fresh install of Tiger runs smooth as silk. I would say if its a gift for a person in a all PC house they will love what ever Mac You get them even if it has to run OS 9
but I must agree with others that a DV would be the best choice the Firewire is very usefull iPod,Cd Burners,Hard Disks etc.. I would also check around a little like the local newspaper or eBay a B&W G3 would also be a nice choice and it can be upgraded to a G4 and has no screen problems. http://www.powermax.com is running a few nice affordable computers also, last time i looked they had a Cube for $250

The Bondi Blue iMac will be so slow with Tiger and even Panther I don't even want to go there. Plus the fact you actually have to mod the thing to run the latest versions of OS X whereas the DV is officially supported...
