Nikon N80 and 2 Quantaray lenses:
1. 28 - 200 3.5-5.6
2. 28 - 90 3.5-5.6

for $200?

is that a good deal or should i pass? what is a reasonable price?

will those lenses work on my d50?

I have wanted to have a 35mm as a 2nd camera but after reading a long article about 35mm said that it just isnt that great anymore. i would just like to scan them in and have a really high res image of my shots when i do shoot 35mm.

I have recently bought a sigma 70-300mm lens for my d50 so the lens isnt so appealing anymore.

Thanks a lot.

The lenses will work- but the performance will be at the extreme tail end of lens performance.
IMO you'd be better off putting that money towards more lenses and accessories. 35mm is a whole different world and the N80 is an older camera- there are fewer and fewer things in common between it and the D50. shooting film is expensive, believe me I tried it. Stick with your D50 and work on improving your base kit before going for a backup camera- and keep that digital too.

If you have $200 to burn and already have a telephoto. Consider maybe the Sigma 18-125mm which is only $235. Its the cheapest good lens around.

.

It is a "fair" deal but not a great one. The lenses are not the best. In fact they are cheap ones. For $200 you should be able to get real Nikon optics. After all why buy a Nikon camera if not to take advantage of the quality Nikon lenses. Also the lenses focal lenght ranges are redundent. That said, the system would do much better quality work then _any_ 35mm point and shoot

If the lens works with the N80 it will work with a D50 but while 28mm is wide on a film body it is not wide enough on a D50 with its 1.6x "crop factor". You would want to pick of the 18-55 kit lens with the D50

I own an N90 and F2 body and a number of Nikor lenses. Scanned negative and slides can be better quality then what I can do with my D50 but ONLY if I work at it. The beat the D50 you need slow, fine grain film, a big tripod and a cable release or self timer and carful exposure. With that film reaches it's potential which is about twice the recored detail as digital. But for hand held snap shots, both are the same

Based on just looking at the N80 body alone at KEH, this body sells for between $150 to $200 dollars. While Quantaray (Sigma) lenses may not be the best out there, these two lenses have perhaps a used retail value of $50-75 for the 28-90 and $150-200 for the 28-300.

I use a 25% "discount" when looking at used gear that is not being sold by someone with a decent return privilege or used warranty. At the low end of what was mentioned this would make the deal worthy at $250. So at $200 it would be decent deal if everything is working order.
