i just purchased this off apples refurbed store

512MB memory
80GB hard drive

it seemed like a great deal, how much upgrading can i do on it? i figured memory will be simple but what about the HD? the bad thing is if there is a decent upgrade i will probably purchase another one...
 
You definitely want to upgrade the memory. You can do this yourself, or find someone who has done it before if you are squeamish about opening the mini. The only other upgrade I did on mine was to get a couple of USB externals and a Belkin port expander.

I think $479 is a great price on that, considering they still sell the 1.66ghz for $649.

You get 2gb of ram in that and you'll have one nice machine.
 
Definately, like others have said, more RAM. Myabe a bigger/faster hard drive if that doesn't void the warranty and hopefully pretty easy to install it. Other than that congratulations!
 
I got the same setup from the Apple refurb store. I have already upgraded the HD and RAM. I bumped it to 2GB of RAM and 160GB 7200RPM Hitachi HD. This thing is a little beast. I love it. :)

did you have the HD installed or did you do it yourself?
 
I did it myself. It was rather simply but I have been working on PC's for 5 years or so now. But its well worth it!
 
sorry to bring up a semi-old topic, i just got this mini today and i am a little confused about upgrading it. with regards to upgrading the memory, can i put in 2 2gb sticks? and with the HD how much of a difference is an 7200 rpm 160 vs 5400rpm 250 gb? (speed wise)

one other thing, if i get the stuff installed by a apple certified place, does that effect the warranty or applecare?
