Good device for Converting an Analog source (VCR etc) to Digital/USB maybe?

Hey all,
almost all my home movies from when i was a kid are (not surprisingly) on VHS tapes. Can anyone suggest a good, cheap device that can help digitize them? i dont really know what i'm doing here so so any help is appreciated.

I was thinking something along the lines of this:

is this what i need?

also are there any good apps i should have?

FYI i'm planning on doing this on a 15.4" MBP.
