Ive used an Sony external 16x drive in an aluminum enclosure that works flawlessly. Current 5 1/4 drives hit 24x. Yeah they are bigger but they are hella faster!
Take a browse over at newegg. HP has a good drive for $59. If you want to go slim line, there are tons of colors and styles to choose from starting at $29. Just avoid low user reviewed products.
