OS X Good Headset? (Advice)

Hi,

I have been searching for days, if not weeks for a good decent pair of headphones. I generally use them for gaming and the occasional music here and there.

I bought a good pair of audio technica headphones and they sounded absolutely great! The bad news where, in games such as CSS or any game that required me to pinpoint the location of the sound, they absolutely sucked.

I mean in CSS people where shooting to the front left of me and I was looking behind me, and when someone was walking behind the wall to my left I went right thinking they where there, I never heard audio like that in a game, no matter what settings where in game.

From when I had a PC I have owned a pair of Plantronics 780 - they have surround sound, dolby digital. However they don't fully work as no mac software and searching around i have found the exact same thing with most headsets, if it has surround sound, they are not mac compatible, only plug and play stereo.

However, how come I can pinpoint sounds with these plantronics 780?

My current headphones are broken by left side ear cup and need a new pair, I can probably choose the Plantronics 788 as there almost identical to mine, but I find it pointless to purchase some headphones with features that will be pointless due to the mac.

What headphones are great for gaming around the £50 price tag, preferably not more unless they are a must buy. and what makes gaming headphones being able to pinpoint locations if the surround sound isn't compatible?

well, for what is worth...

i use a pair of jabra revo wireless for the same stuff as you, and they work well for me.

downside is that if you want to use it's mic you can't be wireless, need to either plug it by usb or audio cable. that's a bluetooth limitation, not the phone's

I don't know if they will help you pinpoint sound, but I've heard a lot of people recommend the sennheiser hd 558 for counter strike.

I only play in Bootcamp so I'm not sure if the driver is as good. I have a pair of Logitech G430, it might not have the most subtle colour scheme but it's a great and versatile pair of inexpensive headset, Dolby Surround works great.
