Good image viewers?

I have amassed a giant source archive. The problem I'm having is that the resolution varies dramatically between the pictures. Is there an image viewer that will display the image in it's own resolution giving me the option to magnify if I choose to? I tried iPhoto but for some reason it looked all grainy and would magnify even really tiny pics with magnify set to the smallest setting. Also the ability to play animations with loop would be great also.

(short version) I guess something like preview but with slideshow capabilities.

Also, what is the difference between created and modified date sorting. I have been looking at the info for different pics and some say they were created after they were modified? I just want to organize by newest added to oldest/ top to bottom. I tried both and it doesn't seem to work right. I have been searching the web and this site but can't figure it out.

i've got heaps of pics as well.

there is a app i used last year when i was doing presentations... Jview. i haven't used it ina while, so you'd have to check it out.

another one that people seem to like... ViewIt. i haven't tried this one yet, but i'm gonna check it out.

i can't tell you the difference between modified and created date sorting, but i'd like to find out as well.

Personally I use Preview. I have iPhoto, expecally because it recopies my picts and then saves them somewhere else under obscure names.

I also like Graphics Converter - A cheap alternative to Photoshop.

I just downloaded a bunch of these. cb911, thanks man that pointed me in the right direction. I tried archer but it kind of sucks. it won't retain original res. and it's just nothing special.
Photostickies kicks ass. Tons of wicked features and it's free. Lots of control and the pictures look awesome.
Jview is really good too. It does what I needed and looks really good. It's free too.
View it needs registration which costs $20. Seems to have a lot of features but I am sure as hell not buying it.
I'm going to stick with Photostickies for the extras.

i'd use preview as well... except if you open up 2000+ pics... well i don't want to find out what will happen.

does anyone know an app like Preview, except instead of only having one row of thumbnails, you can have multiple rows? that would be really useful.

Well unfortunately PhotoStickies is kind of glitchy. I don't think I have been using the term resolution correctly. PhotoStickies does not always retain the original size of the images in slideshow. Jview does and it has a few things that Photo does not. In Jview you can only watch a slideshow with a user selectable solid colored background. It also shows the filename in the bottom left a la music video style. It will not let you magnify or shrink images in slideshow mode. The solid colored background is better then Photo for showing slideshows and Photo does not give the image name during slideshow if it is from a folder with tons of pics. Jview just needs a few tweaks to be really awesome. It should work for me much better and the slideshow faithfully retains the original size unlike PhotoStickies.
