Digg Please!
I tried activating my iPhone last night and received an email towards the end of the iTunes activation letting me know that I had to wait for AT&T to perform more steps. Presumably, it's because I was an old AT&T wireless customer before Cingular ever purchased them and have been on their "old" database and plans. No worries...I sat down my phone and went to sleep. Now, 12 hours later, I still haven't received an activation notice and have been on hold for about an hour with AT&T.
While holding, the CSR revealed that there are not enough reps to address the call volume and that they were currently training more reps.
Here's the kicker.....while on the phone, she revealed that because of the secrecy surrounding the launch, AT&T had waited until the night before to train their employees. On top of that, they only trained 1000 reps. WHAT THE FREAKING HELL???? You mean, you train only 1000 employees on activating potentially MILLIONS of phones? Jesus....I think the Apple store where I purchased my phone had at lease 50 employees ready...in 1 store alone!!! You're telling me that AT&T only trained 1000 people for your NATIONWIDE call center, and only did so the DAY BEFORE?????
Apple: sweet phone, but HORRIBLE HORRIBLE choice of a wireless partner.
More information: "Activations are so backed up, that they're taking 24-48 hous."
Again....a little planning goes a long way. AT&T...YOU SUCK. It pains me to know that they're profiting immensely from this. Argh.
UPDATE: THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE...now my current cell phone has an inactive SIM, and I'm being told that the iPhone might not be activated for 24-48 hours! Holy horse ****....
