Which on would you recommend?

BTW, She wants on with a DVD player because we still have a slow DSL service at the house. Software downloads take a really long time. She already has Office on a DVD.

Thank you

Get an iPad...

But for what she needs a laptop for, either of those is far more than sufficient for her.

I am a big fan of ipads for this demographic as well, depending on the amount of office work

The OP already stated that his mother required a DVD/CD player with the device to be.

Because the internet is slow, I wouldn't recommend anything like iPad or a tablet. UNLESS you can get a reasonable one that can have an external dvd plug in via USB which.. gasp! you can't do with an iPad! Sorry if I sound snarky, not my intent, just that one would think that Apple would have made something like that a bit easier for more people.

But to answer your question, either machine mentioned should work well enough for her needs.

To agree a bit with the above quotes though, for what my mother DOES use the iPad for (emails, media consumption, online banking) she LOVES her iPad and can easily port it around when they are travelling, unlike a laptop.
