9to5Mac just reported that they're seeing old names having migrated to iCloud.

I'm thoroughly excited about this :D

I wonder though, does this mean our data survived the expired time it endured? I've been told before that it's deleted upon expiration. Probably true.

Either way, this is great news for those of us who had great names we loved before, but couldn't stomach the $99/year for it anymore, THEN got hit with iCloud.

I've an expired .me account but unable to login via iCloud on osx lion. Getting "Unable to sign in because of a server error" message

Edit: I've signed up for a new @me account, upon completion I got a message that your old apple id will soon be migrated to iCloud. fingers crossed!

Wait, so it said specifically your old expired name? Or did it just say something generic about migrating .me accounts to iCloud? Because it's said that for a while.

In my particular case, I tried entering my old credentials, now expired since 12/30/2010. I got a message saying my paid account was expired. Nothing about migrating or anything.

I tried this through Lion's MobileMe preferences panel, the MobileMe and iCloud email options in preferences, the iPhone on iOS 5's email preferences, and even the web interface.

Nada.

I'm sure it's just that whoever doesn't get in simply hasn't been migrated yet and will be in due time.

generic, but as you see above when I tried to login with newly created @me account, the system prompted me to upgrade my old MobileMe account to iCloud.

I've not seen this before, but if you go through the comments on 9to5mac you can see some of them are able to login (old expired accounts, in particular).

Or did it just say something generic about migrating .me accounts to iCloud?

So then, is the trick to log in to the MobileMe Preferences Panel first, then go to the Mail, Contacts & Calendars Preferences Panel and login with iCloud as a new account creation?

Why trust Apple?

They've made such a mess in the past. I stupidly paid for MobileMe for well over a year, only to experience bugs and downtime that just doesn't happen with Google which is FREE

DON'T get me wrong, I really like Apple, otherwise I wouldn't be here.

But come on....when are they ever going to get it right?

Probably gonna get it right sometime around Autumn. I've been using iCloud on my MBP, iPad 2 and iPhone 4 as well as through my Dev account on a few other devices. It's pretty smooth and easy to use :)

I think they've got it.

On-topic though, I still don't have access to the email from my old alias, but I did speak to an Apple rep who said, without saying it, that it'll be sorted out later and we're not all just losing our minds lol

My expired MobileMe account was transitioned to iCloud. Find my iPhone works fine but when in the mail.app on ios 5 beta 2, each time I log in to check mail I get this error: "user name or password for iCloud is incorrect."

Also, sending mail from another account to the transitioned MobileMe error returns an error.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
