Good program for designing web graphics?

What's a good program for designing website graphics on the mac. I've used Photoshop, but is there anything cheaper that works well?

I guess it's not too much cheaper, but I like Macromedia/Adobe Fireworks for doing web graphics. You might also check out GraphicConverter if you're just looking for an inexpensive but good graphics editing app.
