After some decision, I think I would like to buy a 1 GB iPod Shuffle. I want something light without many moving parts to be used for when I am out walking.

Does anyone know if there will be any updates to the Shuffle soon, or will they
probably stay as they are for a while? Any comments would be really appreciated, thanks!

It's doubtful there's going to be an update. The Nano has 2 GB of storage and a screen at $199. Not much point increasing the iPod Shuffle to 2 GB. You might expecta price drop though.

i'd say save the extra money and get a nano instead.....

Anyway i cant see the shuffle being about for too long as apple are likely to drop it soon, its release was more of a ploy to encourage more people to use iTunes and buy from the music store, as well as promoting the iPod culture........Hence the reason its dubbed as the Phantom iPod,

Therefore i'd say now is not a good time to buy a shuffle, get a nano its a much nicer piece of kit and is well worth the extra money,

I doubt there will be anything until at least MWSF 06. Then we'll probably see 1 and 2 GB Shuffles with 4 and 6/8 GB Nanos. I have a 1 GB shuffle and I love it.

I dont know if they would drop the shuffle. Makes a good thumb drive, and I'm thinking of getting one just for that reason (as many others have).

I've been thinking about getting one to use as a drive as well, since you can get the refurb 1gb shuffle for $99. I'd say that you're safe buying one right now, it doesn't seem like Apple will be updating the shuffle anytime soon.

Does the Shuffler pop up as another drive on a PC and a Mac, or do you need to install drivers?

I'm considering one of the shuffles as a simple player and handy storage xfer.

I'm thinking of getting a 1gb shuffle, and using 1/2 for data, 1/2 for music.
Anyone aware of a encryption software which will protect the data portion? I'd like to be able to open the files on both mac and pc, and use the password protection without installing any programs on either machine. Is that crazy?:)

I think it's a great time to pick up a used shuffle, people will dump their old shuffle to upgrade to a nano or video ipod.

I was just reading through the online Shuffle manual, it appears you have to pre-adjust the space for Music and File storage, using iTunes. Is it hard-set or is it flexible enough to allow me to store files or music on-the-fly until it's full?
