I usually lurk in the Mac Pro thread but my girlfriend wants a new laptop. She is looking to upgrade to the MBP 2.2 from her G4 Powerbook.

Would this be a good time to buy? I am not sure what intel has coming up as far as mobile speed bumps so I am a little in the dark on this one.

Thanks.
:)

It's a great time to buy. MBPs just got updated and probably wouldn't be again until around January.

Nor will they get a price drop following the intel processor price drop, well, it's VERY unlikely. Some people like to repeat this over and over, I don't believe Apple ever dropped prices on current machines.

It's a great time to buy, bought mine about a week ago :)

I would say its a good time to buy, the Santa Rosa refresh happened only about 2 months back. Leopard is coming out this fall but i dont think you want to get a new (kinda) OS when it first gets released. As for speed bumps, i highly doubt you're going to tell the a 200mhz difference, unless your milliseconds really matter to you.

You sound like a Windows convert. It's not VISTA we're talking about here :p

well if the latest beta tells anything, its going to be one heck of a mess of an OS, like ive been saying i sure hope they do a public RC release...vista had two, and its prolly the least buggy MS OS on launch ive seen. XP was horrible, nothing worked with it, vista at least recoignized most hardware it sees

but seeing as how the newest Leopard is buggier than the older WWDC beta, apple's got some issues to work out...good thing is it seems to be faster than wwdc:) i guess all of those iphone software techs got a hold of it and messed the crap out of it :D

Still lots of time :)

Yeah I will buy leopard when it comes out. MBP 2.2 with 160gb upgrade coming my way, plus they have a back to school promo and I get a free Nano!:)

Yeah this is my first mactel, very excited to get parallels on there. She wants to be able to use her lovely mac OS X and run the windows software that she will need for university.

She is moving from graphic design to international development, and she does not want have to leave the Mac in the past.
