I`ve seen alot of people having trouble with slow disks in GB (i know of it happening in Logic & ProTools too).

If you haven`t already maxed out your RAM, start with doing that.
Now, Unless you have a real expencive g5, or 17" powerBook, you probably have the 4800RM disk delivered with most g4 and g3s. I have on my g4 iBook. If you spend 140$ on an external FW or USB2.0 drive with 7200RPM`s, this problem is gone forever. After I began using my external disk instead of the internal one, NO MORE slow disk issues.

So if anyone has had any troubble, I really recomend trying this.

more info, more info!

so, you're running Garage Band from the HD?

Just copy GB onto the external?

So is Garageband running fine on your iBook? Is screen space an issue?
I am planning on running GB on my soon-to-come eMac 1.25/1 Gig/80 HD (7200 RPM, 2MB buffer) but I am considering to cancel my order, as I hear that the 160 GB harddrives are faster (8 MB buffer) and also more quiet. I still haven’t heard from any one actually running GB on a new eMac, but it should run fine, or what?

P.S. Heia Brann . . ! ;)

regarding my "good tip"

First. of course running the GB app from the external HD will make it run even faster, but I didn`t mention this, cause most people like to have all their apps in the apps folder. :)
Second.
GB is running fine on my iBook, and I think it should run GREAT on that emac, its alot better than my iBook. Just make sure you get a godd external audiocard. DO NOT rely on the audio jack in on consumer mcas. Bah. I recomend the maudio firewire410. But you should consider the 160gig HD, you can always use the space. Remember that audio files take alot of space. I have 310 GB total, and Only 100GB is free.
Third; Yes, I did mean the 4200 RPM, which is even slower.. :)

iBook/Powerbooks: 4200RPM Drives factory installed
G3/G4 Entry and mid models: 5400RPM drives factory installed
G5: 7200RPM SATA drives factory installed.

Just to clarify things around here...
