It’s safe to say that I can buy AirPods now without worrying on a instant update

If There is a version two of the AirPods, it won’t be until fall 2018. That said, I would still take advantage of the current AirPods, as they are excellent. And I also don’t forsee version 2 of the AirPods being drastically different.

I foresee gen 2 in fall 2019. Possible in fall of this year but at least you get to have AirPods for the summer. Probably a minor update if there is one this year.

Depends on if you have any interest in the wireless charging pod case. It’s probably safe to assume they’ll sell it bundled so you won’t need to spend on it separately. The catch is we don’t know when it or the AirPower mat is arriving (WWDC in June most likely?)

AirPower and presumably the new wireless charging case for the AirPods was rumoured to be released in March. So if you are looking to go wireless charging it might be worth waiting.

I think out off the Apple products....these are the type you buy now. I just love the sound quality and the lightness and design (even though I’ve got the foam covers for comfort)...almost as addictive as the iPhone itself.

Are you afraid that if you buy now and a new version comes out, yours will stop working?? Buy now, use them and enjoy them. Stop worrying about the next thing.

Got mine on launch day Dec. 2016 and a few days ago had them in my swimsuit pocket. The hot tub did a job on the case but the AirPods still work perfectly. So for now I use my wife's case to charge them. Gonna wait to see if they release a Gen.2 this fall. If not I may grab a wireless case (should release with AiPower pad) to go with the 2018 iPhone upgrade I'm planning for. AirPods are my goto BT earphones - even beyond the Bose QC35s

The OP would be concerned of newer features being added to v2.0.

If Airpods v2.0 had Bluetooth 5.0 support added for eg. then the audio quality may receive a boost as well as their range & battery life.

I've no idea when the next ones will be released...no indication of any timeframe.

If I were the OP, I'd grab these little beauties now.

Rumor has it a W2 chip would be part of AirPods 2.0 - unknown what features that would bring

The current Airpods are well worth their money - one of my favorite Apple devices. I think you might find them with a discount online, and if there is a new version this year, it's probably just the wireless charging case that is new. A "new" set could come later. Who knows? :)

Same with me except it was a washing machine. My case won't power on but the AirPods work fine after charging them with my wife's case. I wound up ordering a new case from Apple support and with tax and shipping it was about $75. If you go that route, Apple will want the serial number that is on the underside of the case lid.

OH MY!! I tossed the case last week.

I got mine a few weeks ago and love them. Happy to use these till the next ones come out and then get those.

I wish I had known this. Reading that tiny set of numbers was incredibly difficult and it is in a position that makes it almost impossible to take a picture of it and zoom in. Thanks for the info!

If they're still paired with your phone via the tossed case the serial number should show in settings/general/about whilst connected.
