It's worth money on eBay for parts. Nothing weird about that. It's better than ending up in a landfill.

They do! Broken MacBook Pro 2011 early 13” is still selling for around 100€ here. Even apple is willing to trade them in for 50€ as long as they don’t have a bloated battery

This is my council-wide small-electronics recycling service. It will get broken down and disposed of properly. Even better than Apple if I believe the council.
Green bin is recycling and black is household waste.
I talked the second-hand Apple shop in town and the parts are worthless as they have tons of every single thing in the machine already.

There’s no real hassle or responsibility. Just clearly state the issues, that it’s being sold for spares/repair and has no returns. People will still buy it.
I simply used it upwhat did you do with it? Go to war? I have the 2012 version and it still runs great with 471 charging cycles

I was hit on my bicycle by a van with it in my backpack and it dented both top and bottom assemblies.
Also, destroyed the wheelset on the bike!
It was fully used.
I don't want the hassle of shipping and dealing with people for minimal money.
I can't even guarantee that the main board is OK.
Not worth it.
I'm sure someone will simply take it before the recycling truck comes anyway.
Now what to do with the 5 or 6 chargers I have ?

At least it had a good run. I still have my 2004 PowerBook which I haven’t switched on in years. I think I had to replace the HDD at one point. To be honest I don’t know what to do with it. I don’t want to throw it in the bin.
I believe that no council will be better at recycling a complex electronics product than the manufacturer who claims to be able to do so and knows exactly how this product has been put together. Send it in to apple.

Great machine but it's failure really pushed me into the m1mba, which is stellar.
Nothing that can’t be repaired, should someone want to. I can’t help it, as an ex-engineer, I don’t accept that such useful things should be wasted (literally) when they can be easily repaired and someone could get many happy years of use from them.
Sure, there comes a time when some things just have to go to the great scrap heap in the sky. But as someone who’s kept every computer and console since a Pong TV game in 1978, as well as so many gadgets it’s ridiculous. Old, spare parts always come in useful.
And yeah, I do still use the old consoles and computers regularly and I tend to find a use for the out of date gadgets. It’s a fun pastime - the wife however, will disagree with that, she’s constantly nagging me to have a clear out....... Never, I will do something with that pile of 50 odd laptops ?
